Audit of financial statements - taking ownership of accounts to audit. Extended assurance engagements such as GIPS verifications and controls reports. Management of the team and determining effective ways to audit financial statements whilst following auditing standards. Maintaining my apprenticeship requirements such as completing off the job learning and documenting my audit work.
I have significantly developed my skills to manage a team and understand the status of everyone's work. I have developed by communication skills and am able to communicate effectively in different scenarios with different people and respond well to situations where I am uncomfortable. I have learnt new technical knowledge through my exams.
I enjoy always learning new skills and the variety of work available to me at Ernst and Young. I enjoy the flexibility and not always working in one place as it stops days becoming boring. I like the fact that, although I am on an apprenticeship, I am treated no differently to other employees.
There is a very developed structure and continuous monitoring of the programme at EY. There's a specific team dedicated to the apprenticeship and they are in regular contact with the apprentices to see if they are getting on well or how they can help anyone. There are regular reminders to stay up to date with the requirements.
There's a lot of support around completing off the job learning requirements and being on top of receiving feedback etc. However there could be more support when it comes to exams and people who have issues with exams. It is very difficult to speak to people and get helpful responses.
We receive support from Kaplan all the time regarding exams and tuition. There are a lot of various ways we can get support from Kaplan and the tutors including online chats, forums etc. There are always options to contact someone, right up to the exam with any questions you may have.
After learning a specific topic for an exam, when I return to work I notice that I understand certain aspects of my job better. There are certain technical conversations that I am now able to get involved with, where as before I didn't know what was being discussed very thoroughly.
There are hundreds of activities to get involved with at Ernst and Young. There are a variety of sports teams such as hockey, football, netball etc. There are multiple network events and networks such as women's network to get involved with. There are also smaller activities within teams, such as networking dinners.
Yes
There's such a range of jobs available at EY. If you weren't happy within the particular department you were recruited into, you can look elsewhere at EY for a role in a different department. If you don't enjoy the job, you can change without moving firms. There's a lot of flexibility.
Be yourself - EY is all about the people. In your interview you are being assessed as to whether you'd fit in with the people at EY, so don't pretend to be someone else. They love a person who can express themselves and appreciate others. Complete your research on EY beforehand as they are always starting new projects.
