This can be anything from general admin such as filing, to writing memos and slide decks for meeting, attending calls and doing research on technical topics. I have attended a few meetings in my time at EY, some of them involving going to client sites, but as a tax apprentice, we are mainly based in the office. This is about as routine as my role gets.
I have learnt many new skills since joining EY. This is anything from time management, to clear communication and the way the working world works! These are many of the transferable skills you learn while at EY. I have also learnt about the EY systems, such as mercury where we fill out our timesheets, and about EY styles and how to make a slide deck/memo in the correct format.
Everyone within my office is very friendly and approachable and there to ask questions of. This contributed to making the programme enjoyable. Of course, the work you receive is also important and the managers do their best to make sure you get a mix of everything, trying where possible to give us more enjoyable work. Over all I enjoy the programme. I like having most days in the office, but also some time in other offices and out at college learning.
The programme is generally well organised. I get a timetable of my college and exams which allows me to plan what I am doing. We have buddies and mentors in order to help us through the programme, and they are forever looking for new ways to improve how the programme works.
I have a manager who supports me through all my work and exams and who is approachable for any questions/problems I might have. Not only is my manager happy to help out, so is everyone else in the office. So over all, I receive a lot of support from everyone around me!
We have set college time, in which we have a tutor who teaches us the exam content. The tutors change each time, however each tutor makes sure we have their email so they can support us outside of the classroom. Kaplan also have many online resources and people to contact online about any queries.
As we are doing the accounting qualification, however I work in tax, these do not cross over very much at all. The qualification is broad and gives me the opportunity to go into many jobs, however it doesn't really help me to perform better in my role. We do get the opportunity later on to complete other more relevant qualifications though.
Yes, there are sports teams, and the womens network. I hear about the sports teams and matches people have won/lost. I am largely involved in the womens network, creating events for inspirational people to talk. Also we have many socials. Some of the ones I've been to are: escape rooms, pizza making, mini golf, pub quiz.
Yes
You gain a qualification while being paid and everyone is very friendly and approachable. We have flexible working, allowing people to work from home and have work adapt around their life a bit more than you might do else where. There is generally a great experience to be had by all and many new people to meet and good contacts to create!
Use the resources on the EY website. They're there to help you! Make sure you do your research and know what you're going into. When doing the online tests, take advantage of the practice questions beforehand as these give you a good idea of what it is you have to complete.
