My role is a Billing Supervisor at a law firm. We work with fee earners to provide bills for our clients and work on queries, credit notes, WIP and revenue management. I also supervise a team of 7 in doing this role, conducting monthly 121's and assisting them with development and training.
I have learnt quite a lot of new skills from my role and apprenticeship. Within my apprenticeship I had to do 12 assignments which related to my role and the business I work in. This allowed me to shadow other parts of the business and gave me a better understanding and knowledge of the business and the different finance groups.
I really enjoy the programme I am on. It allows me to develop not only my technical knowledge, but other important parts such as; leadership, prioritising and planning. I also enjoy that I can work 4 days a week earning money whilst gaining an education, so I am gaining experience.
My programme is very organised. I have 3 monthly calls with somebody at the provider who checks up on me and we set targets to achieve before the next call. They would also help me with any questions I had in the mean time. One part which could have been more organised was that I spoke to several people at BPP, it may have been better to just have one person who I was always in contact with.
My employer were really supportive throughout my apprenticeship. They gave me all the study days I needed and I was never behind with my study days. They were supportive of me when I didn't pass some of my tests and helped me apply my day to day role to my assignments.
I had quite a bit of support from my provider towards my qualifications, they would always be there if I had any questions and would be supportive when I didn't pass a test. They would also answer any questions from the forum. However, the length of time it took to received my assignments back with feedback could have been a bit shorter.
I do feel I was able to apply a lot of my qualification to my day to day role. It gave me a better understanding of the finance team I work in and what all the individual separate teams do. The assignments also helped me with prioritising, planning, leadership and team work.
There are quite a lot of extra activities available at DWF. I have been to events such as when we listed on the stock exchange, and a several charity events for DWF foundation. They also offer several courses, and I am currently doing a management programme to help improve my leadership skills.
Yes
The company is very supportive and gave me everything that I needed, including all my study materials, all the time off needed and the support required. They also offered extra help, and allowed me to do the course from home which meant having to commute one less day to Manchester which helped me.
I would let them know that you do have to be independent and ready to work to work for this company. The support is amazing but you also have to be able to do things yourself. The company also offers lots of activities and the culture is a really nice working environment.
