I work as part of an Agile team that aims to develop high quality software solutions for internal as well as clients Tax function. I've written user stories, attempted product demos and even tried some automated testing. We have daily stand ups in the morning where we update each other on the work h=we have done and are yet to do.
Definitely. EY have very high expectations so I pay very close attention to detail on any written work that I do, I've improved a lot in how I structure my documents from emails to power points as well as coursework. Often, I find myself working on engagements for multiple seniors/managers so being able to divide my time efficiently is something very key when working at a big four.
The team I'm working with are amazing and very friendly, some of the work requires a lot of skill that I have not had enough time to develop for example in testing. I do enjoy the study side of my work, we have two 2-day workshops per module and these are very interactive and it's nice to be away from the office.
The structure has been spot on so far. During university term time, we work Monday to Tuhrsday in the office and have Fridays to study (this makes up 20% of the week.) Also, we're on 3 month rotations where we try out different roles that are available in the team. So for example, I was doing Business Analyst duties for my first 3 months and now I am in testing for the next 3.
EY's support structure is amazing, the ideas they've put in place really help me feel valued and supported. Every Digital Apprentice has a buddy from the year above as well as a Counselor (Manager level) HR is very easy to get in touch with and they can direct me to the help that I need
Our training provider is QA limited. So far, the contact I've had with different tutors and module leaders has been quite positive and usually very quick too. During term time, we have weekly Webex calls with the tutor where we have direct contact and can ask questions or raise any issues we're having with our studies.
I am working towards a bachelors degree in Digital & Technology solutions, I hope that this qualification will better enable me to add value to EY as businesses need to become more digital. Our first module was 'Understanding Systems Development' and this was extremely helpful because it was directly related to what my team are working on.
At EY, there are many networks we can join. I've joined the EY Arts Club as well as the Diversity & Inclusiveness network. Within my team, we have socials every few months to keep morale and team cohesion high. Christmas party at EY is a pretty big deal, last year a big hall in Shoreditch was hired and a black tie event took place with different food and drink and even an indoor bumper cars experience!
Yes
EY uphold an incredibly professional workplace environment, is the perfect place to propel your career and use their resources to gain as much knowledge as possible. They are a forward thinking global business that take great care in every aspect of work. From the outside, my opinion was a fast paced strict business but now I see that every person is valued and has a say, they have created a friendly and inclusive atmosphere where everyone can truly make a success of themselves.
Research is the name of the game. Read as much as you can on EY news and the team you want to work for. Where is the company heading? What projects are they involved in? And how does my own ethos align with EY's vision? These are some of the questions you should ask yourself. EY are a top company and want to hire only the best so you need to be able to demonstrate this. I know this sounds very daunting but trust in your abilities, work hard and be honest.
