My Job role is a Project Planner role. I support project managers in the delivery of projects, and their governance. I am currently responsible for overseeing a "Programme" of projects and ensuring they are being correctly tracked. Another aspect of my role is supporting PMs in the creation of project schedules and improving the capability of Project Management skills on site.
I have improved on my coordination skills and organisational skills, as a large aspect of my job involves planning for sessions, or coordinating a large number of people to provide me with their project updates. Another skill I have learnt is how to use microsoft Project, and scheduling. Scheduling is crucial to a PMs career and it's something I was able to pick up
I really enjoyed my programme initially, learning lots of new things whilst studying towards my formal qualification. However, once that finished after 18 months. My programme has stagnated, where I essentially have to use my own initiative to find new things to do, with little or no support from my line manager.
There was structure when I started, however the programme was changed when I joined so the structure changed. After finishing my formal course, there was 0 structure to follow. Being the only apprentice in my field, it has been quite challenging looking for my own innovative tasks and new skills to learn without clear support
I receive no support from my employer. My apprentice manager never contacts me unless they want something. My line manager has failed to support me in my landing role and he isn't pushing his manager into organising my position when I finish my apprenticeship. It has been a clear failure.
My training provider was very supportive. Constantly checking in and helping me in making sure I'm delivering my work to plan. Paying for my travel, and making sure the tutor is supporting me to the best of their ability. My tutor was excellent at pushing me for what I needed to achieve and ultimately helped me to pass.
100%. Project Management links the theory with the practical, the training helped me improve in both. The whole design of the qualification was to use what I had in my role and justify why I am a good project manager. So it definitely improved my ability in my role, as it was making me think about all my work.
There are multiple social events organised by a specific apprentice network that I used to be a part of. It isn't supported however, and therefore it can often be frustrating trying to organise things. They do have a lot of clubs and activities that I could attend. I just don't
Yes
The motiviation for going to work is clear. I help manufacture life saving medicine that goes straight to the patient. that's never not amazing. I learn a great deal, and there is a large number of early talent and that helps us to fit in and be recognised as a member of the company.
Be very clear in your messaging. Know what you want and don't be afraid to go and get it. networking is key as a large number of jobs aren't advertised but selective. I have worked hard to build my network and it's going to pay off. Use your initiative
