We completed logs that went towards a CMI qualification. We also took part in activities such as creating an app to encourage teamwork and being in charge of a certain a role. We also did tasks given to us by our mentor in the second week, such as correcting documents with the correct notation.
How to work in a professional environment and lead a group to a certain goal. Also learnt how to form a rapport with superiors and colleaugues, aswell as multitasking and condensing instructions given to us in a way to help remember in the long run. In addition, we learnt how to get information needed for customers so we can satisfy their requirements.
I really enjoyed it as I made new friends and I learned to open up when asking for advice or advising others. I went outside my comfort zone and presented our app we created in front of guests which I fully enjoyed. I also did activities I wouldn't have done without EY, such as learning about drones and how they can work in real life cases such as transporting things to places without the requirement of a pilot.
Since it was the first time the programme had been opened to my city, it wasn't organised as best as the programme in other cities, however the staff were able to create work for us to complete under the circumstances. We received a talk from a worker themselves on how they ended up working there aswell, which was very insightful.
As it was the holiday at the time of the work experience, I feel like I couldn't get an accurate sense of what it would be like to work there as there was few people working compared to not during the holiday. However as my exposure to the professional environment was minute to begin with, it did widen my perspective by a fair degree. I learnt a good amount about the conoany culture as, although there not being many workers in during my work experience, they all worked in various aspects of the company which they happily told us about.
It helped me a lot as to begin with I had no insight to different careers and their work style, so working here shone light on what it's like to work in an office which consisted of sitting for long hours. I had my doors opened for many different career paths but working here made me realise that sitting for long periods of time wasn't for me. Although I did enjoy it, I did feel a restriction. So it helped me a lot in narrowing down what to choose for me career
We were paid hourly aswell as having some holiday pay.
We had many opportunities to listen to employees of the company. During our activities we had time to speak with guests and employers. We also had mentors in which we could email during our work experience aswell as having another mentor that we could speak with after our work experience.
Yes
Many people are indecisive about what they want to do in the future. This experience can help determine whether you like a certain working environment or career. Even if people feel like they know what they want to do, there is no harm in broadening your views on other career paths.
Don't be afraid to throw yourself towards any opportunity. As an introverted person myself, I couldn't sleep thinking about going to my first day at work the next morning. However, if you open yourself up to others, they'll naturally open themselves to you. It may seem scary at first thinking about how to talk to others, but once you have conversed for the first time, the rest will flow through.
