  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Role involves 4 rotations, finished products, raw materials, stability and microbiology which rotate every 9 months. Day to day in the lab involves being assigned a test and performing it, the next day collecting and analysing results and reporting to whoever necessary. Every day is different with different tasks/methods assigned to help with the running of the lab.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • New skills learnt involve titration, pipetting and testing at an industrial standard. The use of ion and gas chromatography. Built on communication skills between different departments and people on different levels within the business. Reporting skills improved being able to analyse, discuss and present results to a group of people. Learnt skill of GMP.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot as it gives me the opportunity to work towards a degree whilst working for a top company and earn a competitive salary that increases anually. The programme has allowed me to develop on existing skills and give new ones. I look forward to the future after the apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is mostly well organised with 1 day a week allocated to studying for the degree. The rotations at work should be every 9 months however this can change due to business needs. The programme has a set structure across the 3 years and all apprentices within this role follow same structure.

  • 7/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of support is given from the university who check in with us every 8 weeks to ensure we are on track with the course. we are given a tutor who comes to check we are up to date with coursework and exams. Support is also given for revision.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification can sometimes support the day to day role however not massively. Sometimes there is a crossover between the uni coursework and the job however not often. however it is good to have the theory knowledge and then build on it with industry experience, they do go hand in hand.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is one of the top companys with many benefits to the employee. The apprenticeship scheme is well structured and sets the apprentice up for a promising career without the debt of university. The company has a good pension and share scheme which the apprentices can get involved in and benefit from.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Be honest in your application as the company are seeing if you are right for them and you need to find out if the company is right for you too so honesty is key. Ask lots of questions if through to interview stage. Learn the values of the company also.
