Daily I perform maintenance and installation tasks on my plant. These can involve working on pieces of equipment which require regular maintenance or equipment that is only maintained when it has broken down or deteriorated. Each day I work along side my tradespeople to develop my skills and understanding of my trade. I also perform tasks which include problem solving.
Since begging my apprenticeship I have developed many skills. Some of them include my team work and leadership skills, for example working in groups with mr fellow apprentices helps me develop these skills. I have gained a new skill set which is working with tools and instruments specific to my engineering role.
I enjoy arriving at work every day and learning valuable skills that will stick with me for life. I also enjoy working alongside other like minded people who have knowledge to share with me about my trade. I enjoy being able to perform tasks myself and my job makes me feel like I play a role in maintaining such a large plant.
The programme is very well structured and all tasks to do with my college is always organised. The apprenticeship scheme is a great way to feel part of an organisation. The programme has been going well since I first started and I few that it will only get better from here on in.
My employer provides excellent support in all aspects of the scheme. They are very easy to deal with and provide me with all sources of information that I may need. They also make it easy for me to have time during my working week if I need to study for any up and coming tests which I have in college.
The training providers are very helpful in the fact that they can meet me or get in contact with me whenever I need it. They visit site once a month to check up and see how we are getting on with the work towards my qualifications. I often find that they are very easy to communicate with.
The qualifications and study’s that I am working to awards are very relevant to every day work and help me to become more competent. My training provider always makes sure that the tasks I am completing help me within my work place. My theory skills are developing rapidly as I complete my work.
In my work there are many events and activities that you can take part in. There are apprentice activities such as helping out in the local community or doing charting work. There are also sports teams out with the work which allow you to meet new people with common interests.
Yes
I would recommend GSK to anyone who is looking at a modern day apprenticeship. They are a very friendly company who are a joy to work for. They look after all employees with great pride and allow all employees to undergo as much training or education as they could possibly wish for.
Be confident when applying and make sure that you read a lot about the history of the company. Make sure that you know exactly what the company are looking for in there apprentices. All of this information can be found online and is very easily accessible on the GSK web page.
