My role involves assisting my supervisor and team on legal matters. By the end of the course I will also have completed my Law degree and qualifying exams. I rotate teams allowing me to gain experience in different areas of law before qualifying.
I have learnt skills in relation to technical legal practice, such as drafting documents and advising clients. I have also improved my communication skills and developed a 'people network' through the correspondence I have with various parties such solicitors for the other side, experts, clients and colleagues.
I have really enjoyed my programme, including learning about the law and the day to day tasks undertaken by solicitors in various fields of work.
On the whole my programme is structured well, however, I am one of the first years to complete the solicitor apprenticeship which means there is some uncertainty about how the course will develop in the future.
I received a lot of support from the supervisor and other colleagues in my team. By rotating teams I have had the opportunity to work with many different people who I can go to if I need their opinion or support. I also have an apprentice manager who supports me with the 'HR' side of the role.
My training provider gives me with guidance and support throughout the year and organises regular 'catch ups' to check on my progress and well being. They are always available if I ever have any questions or concerns.
My qualification give me the legal knowledge and background needed to understand the areas of law I work in. This assists with various areas of my role, I can feel more confident about the work I am doing and apply what I have learnt in the workplace.
There are certain sports clubs and other social activities I am able to get involved with. At the moment I often take part in free yoga classes organised through work, social nights for the office arranged by the firm and I am apart of the 'Young Professionals Network'.
Yes
Teams are friendly and approachable. The firm has a positive attitude and will support you where they can. There are opportunities to develop and progress. There is a good work life/social life balance.
If applying focus on your interests/goals and how these align with the firm's goals. Think about why you want to pursue this type of apprenticeship instead of the normal route of going through university.
