I work on a range of clients providing them and their stakeholders with assurance and confidence within their financial statements. Involves directly communicating with senior management both internally within EY and externally with the client.
I have learnt many skills from effectively communicating with team members and clients, to managing small groups of people and being able to efficiently and effectively report to senior management.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme on, as I am given responsibility and oversight of projects, which is something that motivates me. Meeting new people is also a great opportunity at EY, again something that motivates me and I enjoy.
The organisation of the programme is well suited to myself and others on the same path. There is clear segregation for school leavers which allows there to be more focus on your development and progress given you have come from different levels to that of graduates.
Support is something that is clearly important to EY as a company and something that is ubiquitous throughout the business. Regular catch ups are held with management about progress and if there is anything worrying you, whether that be exams or work.
ICAs are supportive in that they constantly offer support and help during exam periods. They are very open to us picking up the phone and calling them if we are finding anything challenging.
The content learned at ICAS is reflected within my day to day job which makes learning the exam material much easier, as there is context in content. The idea of being a fully qualified CA by the age of 22 motivates me in my day-to-day job as well.
There are many CSR events that I get involved with. For example I trekked the Great Wall of China in May of last year as part of a fundraising exercise with the EY Foundation.
