At EY, my day to day tasks involve key responsibilities such as Relationship management, Diary and meeting management, Travel management, Communication management, Events management, General administrative and project support. An example of Travel management would be booking flights/trains and/or hotels for Partners that travel for meetings.
As there are a lot of key responsibilities involved with being an Executive Assistant, everyday I'm either learning new skills or sharpening my tools. For example, diary and meeting management allows me to enhance my planning and organisation skills as I can take control of a partners diary, accept/decline meetings for them as well as book meeting rooms in advance.
One reason why I'd say I've loved the programme so far is the work/ office culture. From the first day, the other EA's in my team have made me feel welcome and apart of the team which helped me settle in better than I could've expected. Working at EY exceeded my expectation; a reason for this is that I enjoy doing the work I'm given and I enjoy networking and meeting new people who I can learn off.
The organisation from day one has been fab! The induction in London and the training I received in Leeds was straight forward and I received help whenever I needed it. In addition, as we have assignment/mission from BPP, EY allocated us a study period to help us get on with that side of the apprenticeship which I think help a lot.
I think the best thing about this apprenticeship is that its so easy to ask for help! Working at a firm like EY, there can be a small margin for error which could add pressure to work. However, I've found that my mentor is always there when I need assistance. Furthermore, I feel confident to reach out to the other EAs and the people at BPP.
BPP are always available for me to ask for guidance through email. Additionally, our catch up calls/reviews every month really help me as I can ask any questions and I receive advice on the next mission.
What I learn through BPP helps me massively in my job role as it helps me to understand EY's business operations and the factors as to why EY needs EA's to remain a strong competitor in the top 4.
Networking is huge at EY! Just recently I travelled to London for a networking event - this allowed me to meet new people who do the same job as me. By interacting with those who have been here longer, I learned a lot from them when they spoke about their past experiences at EY.
Yes
I would recommend EY to a friend as I believe it is one of the best companies to work for. It's a company that really value each employee and the people culture is great. Working at a top 4 company can bring pressure, but that's what can allow you to push and challenge yourself and become a better you. Even if it doesn't work out for someone at EY, the experience you can gain from this company can go a long way for you!
One tip I'd give to someone applying is to not overthink everything. I say this as this was a problem that I initially had. When it comes to the interview, the best thing is to be yourself and answer the questions in your own time as opposed to rushing an answer or answering like you're reading off a script.
