I work in audit which is a fast paced environment, particularly during busy season when students to their placement. We are responsible for performing testing over the client's financial statement and the controls they have in place internally to better their accounting systems and procedures used. We analyse this to see if the accounts are true and fair.
I have built my communication skills in a professional manner, when speaking to members of my team and the client. I have bettered my time management and organisational skills, which is essential in a fast paced environment. I have become more confident and grown my ability to take ownership of my own work.
I have really enjoyed the programme. There is a good combination of studying at university and working on placement. The team are really supportive and we have a great network at university who are there for you and guide you properly through the programme, preparing you well for placement and exams.
Clearly structured programme with the mix of university and placement. First year fully at university is great to feel settled, get the full university experience, meet new people and try new things. It is well organised by studying for a term, then going on placement and applying your knowledge, then exams on your return.
Employer is supportive, with a great team and your own personal career coach. The career coach arranges regular meetings to check up on you, discuss your experience and any concerns you have. They are a great support network, a great listener and are able to raise any issues to a higher level.
Training provider is greatly support. Several of our lecturers will provide us with extra work and revision tools, to ensure we are sufficiently prepared for assignments and exams. They are willing to put in extra time to run through anything you are unsure about and also there to raise any personal issues to.
The qualifications provides us with the underlying knowledge and skills needed for our work. At times, some of the things we have learnt are not directly applicable but I am able to see their relation to the field of work we are in. The background knowledge gives me comfort in what I am doing.
We had great social events during my work which was really fun to get involved in such as drinks nights to chocolate make up. This provided us with networking opportunities and make friends with those in our office. These events made me feel comfortable and settled within the team altogether.
Yes
Everyone is friendly and have a great work ethic. The exposure I have got so early into my career has been great and I have been trusted with my work and not felt like an intern and placement student. The office environment is great and good to recognise lots of people you see around.
Do your research. It is important to research the company and role you are applying for. Prepare any experiences you have and apply these to the core values and competencies PwC portray. If possible, speak to someone you know for example through LinkedIn who works at PwC or in this field of work.
