Dealing with business who are facing financial difficulty - at times of insolvency, dealing with creditors, making payments from the company account to pay off creditors, working with other departments when required to help out if necessary, attending training events as well as a mix of online learning to gain the skills required and learn more about my job role

The new skills which I am learning whist on this programme is gaining a deeper understanding of excel and the tools that can be used on a daily basis when working with accounts, learning the Law and how it can differ between Scotland and England for businesses, the way in which letters and emails have to be correctly written and also how to write letters to creditors for reports

The programme I am currently on differs day to day and there are ample opportunities to help out in other areas, after just starting with the company I was helping out at apprentice workshops and school leaver programmes, the business is very accommodating which is very beneficial, daily work differs daily and can be working on more than one project at the same time which is enjoyable

The programme is organised so that you are working on the job whilst also being able to study for your ICAS exams for the CA qualification, the benefit of this is that you learn on the job which assists you with the exams however communication is not always clear with when things have to be completed

From my employer I have received good support and the team I work with continue to reach out and ensure that I am getting on fine with the work that I have been given and I am encouraged to ask questions and I have also got people who I can reach out to if I need more work to complete

The support I have received has been good whilst at work and one of the first things I was told when I started was that my exams were important and so if I felt that it was getting a bit much or if I needed more time of for studying I just had to communicate it with my team, my team are also good at catching up with me to as how I am getting on with everything

The qualification that I am sitting is extremely important to my role and this helps me perform an understand tasks better, this is also a requirement for the role which I am doing and in order to be an Accountant you need to have a CA qualification which is what the programme is helping you achieve

There are plenty of extra curricular opportunities for people to get involved in at work. There are various networks which people are encouraged to join if it is something that they are passionate about, they also try to catch up with the team that you are working with on a regular basis

If being an Accountant is something that you want to be then this is the role for you, the benefit of this is that you do not have to go to University however you will come out with the same qualification as someone who did go to University however you will do it in less time

For applying I would make sure that you know the role that you are applying for, there are plenty of quizzes online to see which role may suit you best. They also do not expect you to know everything it is more about the way in which you present yourself to them
