I am a tech risk consultant, supporting the IT evaluation of financial audits completed by the assurance department at EY. We specialise in the Technology Risks companies face with their use of financially significant IT applications and tools. As we are an advisory role the day-to-day can vary depending on the clients and type of engagement, allowing a good variety in tasks. I am also studying with the ICAEW to be a Chartered Accountant (ACA).
Organisation, communication and teamwork, whilst basic have massively been improved/ developed. This is not just from engagements (work) itself, but from being included and involved in organising CSR events, social events and training opportunities. I have also developed a strong understanding of technology risk specific to the job role.
It is challenging work at times, which for myself is good and what I wanted out of the scheme. It can be challenging having to work and study for exams towards the ACA. At times, you feel overwhelmed and short of time. There isn't enough time given to study to pass all the exams first go at the first level, and I have seen peers fail this stage and leave the company. On reflection the course itself is strong and I am glad I am doing it.
There are two sides; work experience - which is excellent - and exams - which is very tough. At times there isn't enough time to study and work for some of the first level exams of the ACA, but the support is there and excellent. It is well organised and I know my next set of exams up till 2022.
I have an excellent level of support from all of my team, whether that is others in my intake or the partner of technology risk in the midlands. All are available and willing to support you. There is a great family dynamic.
Kaplan are excellent too, the content is clear and well taught.
The qualification is a really prestigious one and I am excited to finish it over the coming years. It is more relevant to other roles, but will help with my role specifically by broadening my skills and opening doors for future management roles.
I am a member of the Midlands Advisory Social Committee and also the CSR day team leader for the Midlands Advisory. We regularly have social events and team activities, which are well funded and often.
Yes
Best member of the big four and a great company to work for. Additionally it is a great stepping stone.
Be yourself - this is what all the assessments are focused on. They are trying to identify who you are as a person and whether you fit the EY core values, rather than your academic success.
