  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working as an associate, I was expected to perform tasks such as performing testing of operating expenses, tying back entries into the client journal systems to the original invoices, as well as ensuring that the lead schedule agrees to the trial balances and to the individual lines within the financial statements

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to be more independent, managing my own time and workload to ensure that I met deadlines without having to work late hours. I also have a new found confidence, having led calls and communications with client contacts to obtain the sufficient appropriate evidence required to complete testing

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has been very enjoyable, having split my time between studying at university and working for PwC in busy season. It is good that we are able to transfer the skills that we learn at university and using them in the real world in my audit work and vice versa

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is set out very clearly, with defined periods of time at university and at work. The programme is set up to accommodate both of these periods, ensuring we are able to focus solely on them one at a time to make sure that we get the most from both experiences.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • PwC have been excellent while we have been on placement, as well as while we are at university. They provide books and learning materials while at uni, as well as keeping informed of the progress that we are making. At work, we have various support networks to ensure everything is going as planned.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In terms of ou r qualification, the c ourse allows for us to achieve twelve of the fifteen accreditations for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales required to become a chartered accountant. Following this, for the final three exams we attend college and gain the full qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Having completed my exams each summer, I feel like the following placement I have gained more knowledge that I am able to apply to the testing that I am to perform, and am able to talk more confidently through the work with my seniors as well as the client contacts.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • PwC offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities, with regular events happening throughout the year. I had the opportunity to get involved with various activities, such as a 5 a side that was arranged amongst the people in my office, as well as various professional networking events in the year.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC are a highly reputable firm, who offer various opportunities within a variety of sectors, with a wide range of roles and industries to become involved in. They offer support for almost any situation and listen to the needs of their staff to ensure there is a happy working environment


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • For those applying, I would tell them to do their research around the core competencies and to have a good understanding of the current business environment, as well as showing an enthusiasm to learn. Most of all, applicants should just try to be themselves, with the people being the core of the firm
