My role day to day varies with different tasks. I quite often have to liaise with senior people from different client sites which can be challenging given my experience. I am constantly learning how to build a better working world at EY and deliver good client services at the firm.
Yes, I joined EY straight from school when i had just turned 18 so I did not have any experience in the working world really. When I look back to when i joined in 2017 I cannot believe how much I have learned, from social skills to actually putting my work into practice.
I do enjoy the programme I am on, although it can be tough with busy season and the long hours, it is helping me learn more about the industry. I am also studying towards the ACA qualification which is also interesting as i can see how it relates to my job.
It has a set structure in terms of the exams we are sitting. However, as a school leaver the rest of the department do not really know when the exams are as we are in and out of college at what seems to them as random times and sometimes this is difficult to communicate.
We have catch ups with my line manager regularly. I have recently changed mine to a manager who i work closely with and it is much more helpful and i can really tell at EY everyone wants you to learn and train to be a good auditor and chartered accountant.
Kaplan is a good training provider and gives you lots on online resources. They have an online chat room which is helpful for quick questions you want answering. We do tend to have to teach remotely for the technical knowledge which does slow the process a bit but overall the support i receive is good.
I have moved onto the professional level of my ACA qualification and now i can really start to see how what i learn in college will benefit me in my day to day job. It is good as i will not be forgetting anything after i sat the exams as it is a constant reminder at work.
No I do not take part in any extra curricular. I was part of the social committee however the department got rid of the budget for this financial year so i cannot organise anything but hopefully next year i can put my ideas forward and organise socials within the department.
Yes
EY is a really friendly firm and everyone you work with, who i have come across so far, wants to help you and they do not mind answering any questions you have. I like how they also help with the professional qualification too and want you to become qualified as soon as possible.
I would say definitely read up on EY's core values and what their vision is going forward. It would also be important to read up on how the business has been impacted with the COVID-19 and what we are doing to continue to deliver exceptional client service with everything going on.
