I was in charge of auditing the financial statement figures of the client. I was given various areas such as accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash to test. I would request for supporting documents from the client and check to see if figures on the financial statements are free of material misstatements.
I have learnt new excel skills throughout my placement. I was able to learn a lot of shortcut and improved my efficiency in my work. I was able to apply the things I learnt from University such as debit and credit entries and apply it to my testings and my work performed.
I enjoyed the placement aspect of my programme as it enables me to apply things learnt in the classroom onto real work. With having three months of placement between the course, I was able to get a glimpse of what real life audit work would look like and allows me to know if it is the right path or right thing I wanna do in my life.
Throughout the placement, there were a lot of support available from both University and from the company. I feel supported as there are ex-flying starts working full time who would be able to assist us given their past experience. We were also assigned a career coach who would always check up on us to ensure we are doing well throughout the placement.
We were all assigned a career coach who would assist us with any work related/client related problem. We also have ex-flying start who would give us a brief introduction and before we leave help us with admin things. We would also have some Q&A sessions which allowed us to ask any questions we have regarding joining full time.
Our University is very supportive when working towards our qualifications. They would prepare us using a lot of question practice and past papers. We would also have mock exams which prepared us before the exam and so we would know what a real exam is like. They would also have sessions if we need extra support.
All the things I've learnt for my qualification definitely helps me perform better in my job and my placement. Everything we've learnt form the basis of everything we do. They are also the basic technique and knowledge we would need to perform well as an associate and anything above.
In our job, we have different social groups which would have different event through out the year. It enables us to network with other people. Despite it being very busy during busy season, it allows us to take our minds off work and enjoy some other things. Such as we had pancakes on pancake day.
Yes
It is a wonderful place to start your career as it is a big company, you would be able to network with a big group of people. It would also allow you to gain experience auditing some big companies and build your portfolio. There are also a lot of flexibility and opportunities.
Be prepared. There are a lot of people who are interviewing and applying to PwC as well so you have to be more prepared than others to secure a place. I would said do your research and read the news. Have a broader business knowledge outside of the textbooks is crucial.
