  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Ticket logging for an Application using Microsoft Azure platform, Microsoft teams meetings, skype interactions, Outlook. Some minor project work, but in current role this is to a minimum, previous roles have been a lot more engaging and project focused (i rotate around teams) as well as a Level 4 college diploma and Foundation degree at Open Uni

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Basic skills like Microsoft office, outlook, skype and microsft teams Microsoft azure skills soft skills in professionalism and how to interact within the workplace Automation of tasks using AA Creation of chatbots And just generally learning how a company structure works within teams and higher up, knowing where you sit, and not being afraid to speak to someone higher up because of their position, because chances are, you will add value to someones day even if they are a director

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Recently, we have had a big re-organisation, it is no secret this has made life very hard within GSK for me personally. the team i used to be in and really enjoyed was removed and i was placed in another team which i did not enjoy as much. I am in the process of moving to another team, but it has been a lot of work to get to this stage. Within the previous team it would have been a 10/10 but because of the hassle recently i have to rate this fairly poorly. (please note, my experience is not what 90% of people will see)

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Training and support with the team is normally really good, there is budget and a lot of support for whatever career path you wish to go down with in education ive had delays in Uni work being started due to errors in being signed up by GSK and when there is a re-organisation or any kind of movement of employees, apprentices 100% feel like an after thought

    5/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support is given, managers normally setup 1 to 1's every few weeks or monthly, there is a lot of budget for training, apprentice activities are plentiful such as going up the the lake district or down to wales for team bonding. I never hesitate to ask a question to anyone, there overall is a lot of support here!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lot of support from GK apprenticeships but way less from the OU, they expect you to do everything with very little support which is very frustrating to be honest. There is also very little interactions from training providers and managers. This causes a lot of chasing because the apprentices are often told something different to the managers

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like some of my studies have helped my day to day job like soft skills but not as much as i would have liked, there is no direct link to the studies and the work i perform for college and uni. They feel very separate to each other.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are a lot of networking sessions, and apprentice activities. Some inside of working hours which is nice and others less formal outside of working hours. We also partake in a big event once a year such as going to the lake district for 'Outward Bound' and to Wales for 'Fieri'

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall a very good experience, but it can be let down by very minor things which could have easily been avoided with very little effort and would be improved buy making apprentices feel a bit more like a FTE and less of an afterthought. Overall though, very happy with how its going so far

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Work on your soft skills, make sure you are able to work within a team properly as well as independently. Technical skills can be taught, everyone starts somewhere So as long as you have a can do attitude and a willingness to learn youll be absolutely fine applying to GSK
