  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day activities included working within a team working in assurance. This involved traveling to client site (most of the time) and working within your team and with the client to understand issues and resolve them to put it simply. You work towards an understanding that the financial statements show a true and fair view.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have both developed and learnt new skills. PwC let you work from day 1 after a bit of training which allows you to get fully involved with the audit process allowing you to learn a lot. You'll be pushed and get to experience professional work for what it is. My main skill I learnt was professional communication skills which helped me massively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy this programme. PwC get you involved with everything and if you're ever struggling you have a massive support network around you of people who were in the same position as you so they're always happy to help. The most enjoyable aspect for me is the variety. You don't just work for one client but a variety of them so your job changes week to week which is really nice.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We learn all our uni content before Christmas and then are tested on this after Easter break. Our placement is right in the middle of the two between Christmas and Easter. I really like the structure as it allows you to learn on the job and apply this in your exams.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Anytime you need support there will always be someone who will help you. PwC have a big family like structure so everyone helps each other. For me personally I've always received the answers to my queries and its always been a really quick response, so definitely PwC offer a lot of support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Reading Uni do offer us a lot of support as well. We have some independant lecturers who have come directly from PwC or from the assurance background. This allows a different style of teaching because they can apply everything to multiple situations to help you understand. In full, Reading offer a lot of support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • All our modules are hand picked by PwC to train us the perfect way for the job so most things are applicable. You do get a select few things which won't apply like Accounting essays etc. however this is just a part of uni. I think everything we learn has helped me perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes lots. All you have to do is ask and people will flood your emails with events, be it sport like football or educational like the latests on important news stories. I haven't personally looked into many of the options available as I do mine all outside of work but I have heard that there is a lot on offer.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's just the perfect place to work. They offer flexible working so if you're not tied down to client working schedules you can rock in whenever (obviously you still have to work but you can take an extra hour in the morning if you want to). As well as this they allow you to carry on with your sports outside of work, we have a non-negotiable a week which allows you to leave at a certain time once a week and they have to let you unless there are important deadlines.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Research the company and pick out reasons why you think PwC will be a good place to work for you. Don't expect short hours and also don't do this job just for the money because if you don't enjoy it it will be boring unfortunately. But if you get in you won't regret working for PwC.
