Worked on 3 different audits throughout my placement which involved auditing different FSLI areas depending on the job and talking with the client.
I have learnt a huge amount whilst on placement. This includes knowledge of accounting, of the auditing profession, networking skills as well as Excel skills. These have all helped me to feel prepared for my next placement and increased my knowledge of my chosen degree.
I have really enjoyed my placement, even though it involved a lot of work. I enjoyed the amount of trust people had in my ability with coaching being offered if I needed it but mostly being able to get on with work and go and see the client by myself. I have learnt so much and have really enjoyed it.
My placement was very well organised with everyone knowing what to expect from their first admin days to their first days on an audit. We were kept well informed via email and had catch-up meetings throughout my placement. I think it is well structured where we still get to experience university life whilst also getting hands on experience of the industry.
I received a good amount of support, through being assigned a career coach who I had 3 meetings with as well as contacts at the university who I could speak to if needed. The coaching I received on audits was a huge help, with any question I had being answered by members of the team. Everyone was very understanding and helpful, which was greatly appreciated.
Our exams take place in third term once we are back at university, so no support was given to us as we will have revision lectures once we go back. There was little time outside of work to revise, but as I mentioned, exams aren't until third term so this wasn't too much of an issue.
I think my previous studies at university gave me a basic understanding of most FSLI areas, but most of my learning happened whilst working on audits. I think I would've struggled without having completed modules such as accounting and assurance.
There are quite a few events that occur, however there wasn't too much free time to take part. Examples of these include a quiz every Friday, and socials. The social that was scheduled was cancelled due to recent events however.

I learnt an incredible amount whilst on my placement and felt really supported through the coaching I received throughout. They reward employees through the GEMS platform which is a way to reward fellow employees. Overall I would recommend them thoroughly.
I would advise that they do research on the company and make sure that they know a lot about the competencies required and have examples for each. An awareness of the industry is valued, so this would be good to have prior to applying.
