Engineering Technician Apprentice Review

I am an engineering apprentice working for GSK. I am getting fully trained to be a multi-skilled maintenance engineer who is going to spend 6 months in automation. Daily basis is going to college to become trained as I need to correct skills to completely start on my site. After spending time at college, I will be carrying out calibration checks on temperature gauges, pressure gauges and other pieces of equipment. I will be ensuring parts of the site continue to function correctly and if there are any problems, I will be trained to fix and rectify them

Yes, I have learnt loads since I have started my apprenticeship. Not only have I learnt information about my company and the way that it operates but I have receive exceptional levels of training via GSK. I have gain a qualification in PEO in maintenance engineering and I have also obtained L3 in maintenance engineering. I am focusing on studying towards a HNC so that I can progress my career with GSK.

I wouldn’t be doing anything else. GSK has given me the ability to show my skills and knowledge and has give me lots of opportunities to show them. They have been able to meet my requirements to ensure I am comfortable and confident whilst at work as they take their employees very seriously.

Anything regarding my programme is completed very quickly. Any queries, questions and documents risen, are dealt with rapidly. The programme is very clear as it is structured out and everyone who’s what they are doing and when they are doing it. In addition, GSK sent their apprentices on team building activities and other events that don’t clash with everyone’s busy schedule. If you are unsure about anything, it literally takes seconds to find out the answer as you know who to speak to.

Any support that I need, they provide straightaway. They take it very seriously if you need help as they want all staff can work proudly with little struggle. If you require support, there are many places and people to go and speak to for guidance. Every apprentice is given a manager, and these people can help you with anything you need to the best of their and others ability.

When I am undertaking my qualifications, there are always times when I can get on with work without assistance but when I need specialist help regarding GSK, I am able to receive all information I need. The availability of information goes above and beyond your thoughts and they are can help you with every situation. As well as, you can speak to older, more experienced apprentices to ask about their time do their qualifications and then you can ask those individuals for information if needed.

From what I have experienced, all of the work that I have undertaken in my qualifications at my training facilities have been very useful. Everything that I have learnt is relevant to my company, and the training that I have received is adaptable to the work I carry out when on site.

As well as working in a team in departments to undertake work, there are a few different things that you can get involved with. All apprentices have the ability to network with others and career events on site and at schools, colleges in the area. There are team building events that are carried out across the year such as the outward bounds expedition. This is a week long expedition in the Lake District carrying out activities in team such as walking, climbing, caneoing, rafting and other outside sports. Outside of work, there are usually get together where Apprentice can meet up and continue to build friendships whilst networking.

For me, GSK is one of the best, if not the best company to work for. Everything that is done on this apprenticeship is well organised, interesting and enjoyable. The experience that I have had has been great so far as I have learnt loads and had a great time doing it.

First of all, you need to be focused on what you want. You need to know what you want to do as this will make it easier whilst applying. Ideally you need to have to some examples of when you have worked on specific things. This is to show you can carry out the basic requirement. An example of this maybe working in a team to do something. Another thing to note is to do your research, you need to know a bit about the company so you have some general back ground knowledge.
