  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The majority of your time will be spent working on Excel. You will be given responsibility over different accounting areas. The difficulty of these areas will increase as you gain more experience. You will be expected to interact with the client on a regular basis. You will be expected to travel frequently, sometimes you will have to stay in paid accommodation i.e. hotel.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through the University accredited Accounting exams, you will gain exemptions for the ICAEW examinations which will go towards you becoming an ACA Chartered Accountant. Through the work experience, you will get great exposure to a variety of business', and will develop a great skillset. You'll learn how to organise yourself and take responsibility for a lot of work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme requires a lot of hard work. When you are on placement you will be expected to work very long hours, and show a high level of commitment to everything you do. Overall it is worth it. The qualifications and experience you get are valuable. You'll meet a lot of good people.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. You're constantly updated by the programme directors and know exactly what you're working towards and how to get there. You'll receive plenty of training and support from people at the University and at PwC. Time on the programme is split between working at PwC and being at University. You get to experience the best of both worlds.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You will receive a lot of support from PwC. There are various mentors you can go to. You will be given a Career Coach on day 1 with you can go to with any issues you may have or advice you may need. They will be a few grades above you.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • You will receive a lot of support from your training provider when working towards the ACA qualification. PwC will pay for all of your textbooks from day 1. There is a general positive and supportive attitude when working towards the qualification. An emphasis is placed on the importance of self-development and gaining the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • You'll constantly put into practice what you learn theoretically in University. Everything you learn feels useful and practical. Through the qualification you'll gain more confidence in approaching day to day work. Overall I feel I know more about my job and role within the accounting industry through the qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of social activities at PwC for you to get involved in. You can be involved with team sports or other non-sport related groups. There'll be regular social events at the end of each job you work on. At University, you'll be able to join societies.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC will expect the ability to work very long hours and show a high level of commitment to all work. You'll laos be expected to take on a lot of responsibility and take the initiative. Through experiencing this, you will develop significantly as an individual. You can take these skills with you into other areas of life or further employment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • PwC are very clear about what they look for in applicants. Make sure you spend a significant amount of time researching and memorising this. You'll also be expected to have some knowledge of what is going on in the business/accounting industry. Make sure you practice whatever you'll be expected to do at your interview or assessment day.
