I was part of the audit and assurance team in newcastle and worked across 6 main clients. On a day to day basis i would work with my team to complete the audit file. On some clients i would work on planning, the substantive testing and completion and on others i would just work on one or two of the three.
I have learned a lot of skills this placement by working on new areas of the file and learning excel skills on a daily basis. I was also able to develop skills through testing areas i had tested before, and cementing my knowledge through coaching others. Overall i feel much more confident after this placement.
i enjoy my programme a lot. i thoroughly enjoy the mix of university work and practical work that contributes toward my 450 qualification days. Its a great opportunity to qualify quickly, and allows to be paid a salary while doing it which is a bonus. Overall, i would definitely recommend this programme to others.
I think the programme is well structured. We are always kept informed of progressions and updates. The structure of the placements is particularly good as we split them across 3 years, which means we don't fall behind on any ICAEW exams, and can build on our strengths each time.
I haven't had much experience with this, but i believe the support is there. During the COVID19 outbreak, employees at PwC tried to make life working from home as comfortable as possible, which was much appreciated. Through daily emails and catch up calls, they ensured everyone was stil okay.
All our materials are provided which is much appreciated. Due to the nature of our course, most of the support is from university staff, but this does not take away from the online guidance ICAEW provide. Any information can be found on their website, which is easily accessible to use, even at university.
i think the qualification is key in providing good audit quality. Although the exams are challenging, they provide a good basis of knowledge for us to have at our disposal when working through an audit. I believe the exams i have completed to date have definitely aided me in my performance as an auditor.
Social events at work are well organised and relatively frequent. The social committee are inclusive and have a good range of ideas. The socials always bring people together and try to mix those in different year groups. There are also sports teams, which i am not personally involved in. Overall i think there are great extra-curricular activities to get involved in at PwC.
Yes
PwC offers a great opportunity to learn and work at the same time. The qualification is helpful and PwC support you throughout. Unlike some other work places, socials are frequent and something to look forward to which is very important. PwC are always inclusive and also try to offer flexible working as much as possible.
When applying to PwC, make sure you are willing to undergo the studies necessary for the ICAEW exams as they can be tough. However, as long as you are enthusiastic about accounting, you should be fine! The hours can however be long and draining, so make sure audit is the profession for you.
