  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Commercial Executive, working in the Customer Development department (Sales). I input data regarding the promotions that have been negotiated between Account Managers and Buyers of our Customers. I also download EPOS and Stock Holding data weekly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have attended Excel courses through Unilever, this has helped me to learn how to use Excel efficiently for my job role. I also have a greater understanding of finance from working in Sales.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme. I specifically enjoy the extra curricular roles that the company have created for apprentices, such as the Future Leaders League Competition. This provided me with more experience within departments other than my own.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is organised well. We have a deadline for coursework every month. The only issue would be that sometimes my job role work can get in the way of coursework, as my job role consists of weekly deadlines that cannot be missed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have meetings with Manpower as well as continuous contact with HR to check in on apprentices. I feel comfortable going to them for support too. I also have meetings with my manager bi-weekly to check in on how I'm handling workload.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider are not as organised. sometimes emails I send will not get a response, and so I need to communicate with other apprentices to find my answers.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the tasks we are set through the training provider provide me with a greater general understanding of business, for example, regulations and Acts. However, I don't feel that it has helped me within my specific role within the company.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are groups and teams for apprentices to get involved in to create a community for all of us within the company. There are competitions for us all to get involved in too.

  • Yes

  • Overall, the company has been very helpful and welcoming. I really appreciate the extra curricular activities that have been created for us as this has really helped me gain a wider understanding of the business.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Makes sure you get involved in as many extra curricular competitions/activities as you can. Also ensure you balance work and coursework so that you don't fall behind, do this by speaking with your manager about how to manage time.
