As a digital apprentice in the Innovation, Technology and Transformation team, my role within the organisation is to support with the ideation, design, build and launch of pioneering assets and solutions within my service line. To do this, my work consists of a range of tasks, including designing prototypes with UX designers, and working with in team developers to build new offerings.
I have been trained in low code software tools, such as Alteryx, and partaken in online training courses in both Design Thinking and Agile methodology. My knowledge of the business has also improved, as I have been given the opportunity to work with a range of service lines across the organisation.
I love working with my team. As a small start up team within a large organisation, there has been a lot of change over the past year, but the people in my team make me feel confident and happy within my role, always offering guidance and support. I partake in activities such as the netball club which is a great opportunity to expand my network.
Through my organisation, you are assigned a counsellor. My counsellor has excelled in their role, offering me guidance throughout my program and supporting me in my progression. My team make sure I am allocated the correct time for my study, and offer support and training where necessary to help me improve both my written and on the job skills.
My team are extremely supportive of my role. All members are happy to take time to help my progression and answer any questions - even the stupid ones! - and know I can ask for help. My organisation have a clear HR team where I can access further resources and guidance if required.
The training provider offers a skills coach who I can reach out to with any questions or concerns. When taking part in a module, I am able to contact the tutors directly for support regarding the module topic, and any concerns regarding my coursework or exam. The provider is slow and lacks communication, but do offer some support.
The modules have not always been specific to my role, but the skills I am learning whilst completing them are supporting my development and improving my written skills. This theory and skills help me on a day-to-day as I am able to complete thorough research and complete written tasks to a high standard.
Yes! In my first week of joining, I signed up to the netball team, and continue to play in my local league with one of the five teams at my organisation. I also partake in volunteering activities, where I am given the opportunity to speak to students and share my apprenticeship experience. My organisation also offer fundraising activities, and I have signed up to complete a mud run in 2020 with members of my team. There are also numerous groups to join, and example that I take part in is the Women's Network, and there's something for everyone.
Yes
I have felt confident in my role thanks to the people at my organisation, as they make the work I do enjoyable. The tasks I am given challenge me and encourage me to improve my skills, and I know there is an extensive support network to support me if needed.
Be confident in yourself. My organisation invest in people, not figures, so show your passion and desire during the application process. Even if you think you don't have the skills now, the organisation will support and guide you through the program so that you finish equipped with new skills that you will have for life.
