On a day-to-day basis I manage the calendars for my team, book meetings on behalf of others and manage documents. I also collect items for the agenda for projects and attend meetings in order to take down notes or actions for the project lead. I am also the health and safety representative for my team, which includes taking note of any incidents and attending the department's council to engage with other health and safety representatives.
I have greatly developed my IT skills as before I was very limited on certain platforms such as Excel or Teams. Now I can use them very easily and often coach others in how to use them. I have also gained a lot of confidence in my role, which I was greatly limited in before I started in my role.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I get to see the development of life saving jobs. The company is a great one to work for and I feel privileged every day. The people in work are all very helpful and kind which has further helped my enjoyment of the programme.
The structure of my programme has been extremely organised, with a 2-day induction course at the start of the programme helping me to understand my role and the company much better. I am given a study day each week which allows me to focus solely on my college work and studying. I have also received great support throughout the company, with me contacting many people who have helped me in my studying and assignments. My mentor has also been a great help as she has always ensured I am not too overloaded and have always got the support I need.
I receive great support, with regular monthly check ins with both my mentor and manager to ensure I am receiving enough support. My team are also very helpful and ensure I have either enough work or not too much. They always ensure I know what to do if they give me a new or difficult task and understand not to overload me. They also ensure I am challenged in my role and not just doing simple tasks everyday which is helping me advance my skills.
My tutor is very kind and is happy to answer any questions should I need it. However, sometimes I have been given assignments on subjects I have not been taught and my tutor has marked work incorrectly. However, as I only see her once a month I understand it can get quite confusing to remember what she has and hasn't taught. She is also very flexible, understanding that some month's we may not be able to complete all tasks. However, she has been a great tutor as we are projected to finish our course a year earlier than expected.
My qualification has allowed me to do more time researching the company and also learning about different areas of the company which I wouldn't have done without the qualification. It has encouraged me to learn more about the processes which is very beneficial when completing tasks. It has also allowed me to expand my IT skills through the encouragement of using more platforms.
Yes there is, with groups encouraged across the business. These include AZPride, which supports LGBTQ+ people and allies, helping to promote diversity. They often hosts evenings out after work or coffee breaks during the working day. There is also a mental health awareness group which demonstrates the different levels of support across the company for those suffering from mental illnesses. The company also has AZInspire which host learning events at lunchtimes to help people learn about many different areas of the company.
Yes
It is a great place to work for and you feel very proud to work here knowing you are helping to create and produce products which save people's lives. The company really supports its employees and promotes a happy community. They also have a great health and safety policy in place to help keep employees safe which demonstrates how much they care for employees. The staff are all very kind and happy to help, which has made starting as a brand new apprentice much easier.
Be honest and yourself when applying and interviewing. It is very obvious when you are trying to be something you are not and this will become apparent over the course of the interview and assessment days. The apprenticeship scheme is very inclusive and is a great way to start in the company.
