  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Over the 2 year apprenticeship, I will be assigned 3 placments. I will spend around 6months in each of these placments and in this time I will be in the labs. I will be shadowing others, carrying out experiments, looking into documentation and safety procedures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • All my scientific knowledge has been drastically improved. I have also developed my independent working skills, time keeping and organization skills, which has helped me become a better worker.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship as there is alot to see and do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programe has a structure for when each apprentice will be moving onto their new placment. There are areas where structure is lacking, for example practice and preparation for the EPA is left till the last minute and it isn't always known what you will be doing as your next placment until the last minute.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Overall support from the skills academy has been good and if I have a problem I have people to speak to. My first placment helped me develope my skills in and out of the labs l, giving an amazing amount of help. Mysecond placment has some support but are busy

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of help in the classes but little to no contact with them via email from home.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Qualification supports me in my role by developing my scientific knowledge but most content does not apply to what I am doing

  • Not that I have been notified of

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • AWE provides some great work which you won't be able to find in any other company. They have an amazing team of very talented people who will support you in every way possible.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • Put 100% into every opportunity that you get and don't take the easy route. There is so much knowledge and support all you have to do is ask around.
