I started the apprentice programme working in a mechanical workshop gaining manufacturing experience . milling turning and hand fitting to manufacture components to a set syllabus. After 18 months I worked on site rotations in 4 month blocks in different areas of the business in quality inspection at AWE and what we do
I have learnt how to network more effectively within the business and developed stronger communication skills. I have also developed a strong desire to learn new skills and further my knowledge to gain a better understanding in my job role
I enjoyed the on site placement side of things , however the 18 month in the manufacturing environment could have been shortened to maybe a 12 month period to have more time learning about alternative placements as AWE is so big the variety of placements is so diverse
The initial 18 month workshop phase is very structured as the instructors guide you as if you were learning the skills for the first time so its very guided. The 18 month site experience isn't so guided its mainly task managers tell you the areas when you will work in which area for how long. So its mainly up to the individual in that area what you want out of the placement . if you have a strong desire to learn more and more they will facilitate that.
Support at AWE is very good there are many experienced individuals who are more than happy to chat to you about questions or concerns you may have
N/A I do not have a training provider as I do not attend college

Yes
I came to AWE having been to university with a higher qualification than the course and having come here I learnt how to develop workplace skills for the future. The course was challenging for me and I have had some amazing opportunities that I would not have experienced anywhere else
Be prepared to the assessment centre , research what AWE do . Be prepared to learn how to talk to people you have only just met Its a great place to work
