Vauxhall allow their Commercial Apprentices to rotate departments annually. So far I have been in Fleet Marketing, HR and have recently moved to Communications. I have outlined a few of the responsibilities I've had in each role below. Fleet Marketing: Working with the creative agency to create bespoke PDF's, E-bulletins and more, reporting on the effectiveness of Fleet Communications, Managing an Internal databas for the Fleet Field Team. HR: Managing the Work Experience programme for our central Vauxhall site, Administration of our Leadership and Management Development Programme, Organisation and preparation of other training. Communications: Assist in organising Internal Events and Communications including a desktop gadget and TV screens at the central site.
Whilst being here I have hugely developed my confidence, attention to detail and people skills. Not only this but my presentation skills as we have been given the opportunity to present to senior directors of the business. We have been given various training e.g. Excel, Presentation Skills, Safe Driver Training which have all contributed.

So far in each role I have been given far more responsibility than I expected which has helped my personal development. I have enjoyed the work I have been given in each role I have been in so far and all the teams I have worked with are extremely supportive and approachable, meaning if you are stuck, there is always someone around to help. The best part of the programme is the rotations, so we get to experience different areas of the business and we are treated like valuable employees in each area.
Everybody in the organisation I have come across so far value the work apprentices contribute to the business and recognise that the roles are given a large amount of responsibility.
The managers I have had during my apprenticeship so far have been extremely supportive, as well as the surrounding team. We also have mentors which is another person we can go to for support should we need it. Everyone is always friendly and willing to help.
We currently get a competitive salary in comparison to the apprentice minimum wage and other apprenticeships in the area.
The company organises internal events such as quizzes etc as well as charity events. Sports clubs are organised by apprentices/undergrads for those who want to get involved. Individual departments also organise meals and events outside of work. Apprentices frequently meet up outside of work for meals, cinema or just going round each other's houses!
Yes
The company culture is a great one to work in. Everyone is supportive and there are opportunities to develop in every role available.
Consider what skills the business looks for in apprentices in your application, prepare yourself for the assessment day by practicing interviewing questions and when you get here work hard and use your initiative and your work will be recognised!
