Software testing. Working in a large team, executing tests, finding defects and helping to improve quality of the delivery. Attending daily team meetings.
Developed my confidence and communication skills, learnt how to balance large workloads and prioritise against deadlines. Understood the processes involved in software testing, the software development lifecycle and gained lots of knowledge on the context of the project. Developed my teamwork skills and gained a technical understanding of the system being we are testing.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme. I find that I learn lots of new things everyday and have been lucky enough to be exposed to many experienced individuals who I have had the chance to work with and learn from. I enjoy the challenge of University and gaining new knowledge and skills which will help me in my job at CGI.
The programme is well structured, we are given a good level of support by CGI, as well as the University. We are given mentors and buddies who are there to help you and provide you with what you need to be successful. At University, we are majorly set assignments and have very little exams, which is great as we don't have as much time to spend studying for exams.
There is lots of support. We can schedule meetings with our allocated mentors and buddies, they are there to support us through our University and career. Normally, you meet weekly with each to discuss. Mentors are usually more senior and much more experienced and buddies are usually on the same programme as you. They can help critique your work and suggest improvements.
The University are very accommodating to the fact we are both students and full-time employees at CGI and understand the pressure. They do everything they can to support the journey through University. The course seems well tailored to each chosen pathway and are very relevant to the job and industry.
I feel like there are an abundance of skills and new knowledge that can be gained from a Degree Apprenticeship, and I feel both University and CGI can both benefit each other. You are able to apply what you learn at University to your work at CGI and your work at CGI to what you learn at University.
There is a Sports & Social Club which has a whole range of different sports, activities and social events. There are a large number of apprentices and graduates which makes things like this possible. There are also lots of opportunities to network with other people in different parts of the business through events.
Yes
Doing a Degree Apprenticeship with CGI will allow you to learn the skills you need for the job that you want. It gives you the experience to learn more about what it is like to work in this industry and can even give you a good idea of what you want to do after the apprenticeship if you aren't too sure.
Make sure that you understand that it takes lots of dedication and commitment to be successful at something like this. It isn't easy and requires you to put in the effort to be successful, both at work and at University. Therefore, show you are enthusiastic and know that this is something that you are keen on doing.
