Valuation Apprentice Review

Assisting other team members with their workflow, conducting due diligence and collecting, analysing and summarising data. I also go on property inspections every few weeks, where I am able to shadow one of the more senior team members. I also do an hour or so of studying for the degree most evenings.

I have learnt many new skills, both academically through the degree programme and vocationally through the day to day work. I feel that I have developed my interpersonal skills, timekeeping, ability to summarise data, amongst many others. I have also learn a lot about the 'world of work' and the office environment.

I really enjoy the programme, as it is both interesting and challenging. The on the job work is varied and provides the opportunity to learn from people who work in the industry. The degree material can sometimes be a little time consuming and the style of the course makes it difficult to build meaningful relationships with your peers, however the social aspect of work more than makes up for this.

The programme is very well structured, with the work expected to be completed in each week clearly laid out in advance. The fortnightly diary uploads and monthly reviews help your tutor and employer to monitor your progress. The course tutors are easy to contact and are usually very prompt to respond.

My line manager is very supportive of my degree, and always allows me to take the correct allocation of time to complete my studying every week. My apprentice supervisor also checks in regularly with me to monitor me progress. Other members of my team are also always happy to answer and questions I may have.

I feel well supported by my training provider. It is easy to contact module tutors if you have any questions or issues concerning the course material. On a more general note, my personal tutor checks in with me regularly, and checks in with both myself and my line manager every month or so.

I believe that learning on the job is the best way to learn as you can apply the theory you learn in the classroom to real world situations and scenarios. As I am still near the beginning of my degree, the material I am currently studying is setting the groundworks for future modules rather than being directly applicable to what I currently do at work.

There are plenty of activities to get involved with at work, with my team, other apprentices, other graduates, or the office as a whole. Socialising with others who are of similar age, whether that be apprentices or graduates, provides a great opportunity to relate to others who are either at the same point as you, or a few years ahead.

There is a great working environment which whilst large, still makes you feel like an individual. The company offers a wide range of job roles across a range of service lines enabling you to pick areas that interest you. There are also many others on the same programme, providing a great opportunity to learn from people who are further ahead in the apprenticeship programme.

If you get offered an interview, don't panic, the interviewers are on your side!
