This varies depending on the changing placement, currently I’m in the Data Quality team, looking at providing the outer business with advice on how they can improve the quality of their data so it can be translated across the many different softwares on site.
I have done a lot of work on my coding since starting this placement which has helped me a lot with my understanding for both my potential exit role and for the university modules I undertake.
I enjoy my programme as I think working in the sector I do can be quite rewarding, I do however sometimes struggle with being an apprentice as work doesn’t always come as regularly as you’d hope.
The programme is well structured and backed up well with the qualification you gain at the end of it, one of the only issues I can have is we are currently nearly 3 years in to our apprenticeship with nothing to show for it yet.
The support we receive from our employers is quite good, although our early careers team do not have an IT background so are limited in how they can help, they try their best to help out where they can.
I have had an up and down experience with MMU, I was off ill for an extended period of time and I didn’t feel like the support was there when I came back, however this year has been much better.
I think not all of the modules are relevant specifically to the things that we do in the workplace but some of them are, So overall I would say it’s useful as it can’t be directly specific to one type of job.
Yes, BAE run stretch assignments which are off the job opportunities to gain more experience doing things that you may not experience in every day working life. These can be things such as STEM days for children or speed interviews to give young children advice on how to prepare.
Yes
The pay is very good in comparison to other apprenticeships, in addition to this you’re provided with good opportunities to progress yourself and gain valuable experience within a world renowned company. There is also opportunities to travel abroad later in your career.
Make sure you do your research on the specific business sector you’re applying for and check your application several times for spelling errors, punctuation and grammar, make sure you are giving the best impression of yourself.
