My role at CGI varies from day-to-day, as I am on a number of projects and services that require me to do a variety of things. I'm currently looking at doing some development work, as well as the support work that I'm doing. which has been great for me as it's the career stream I'd like to pursue.
A bit of both. I'm at Swansea University, where I'm learning all manners of development stuff, and have already been able to apply my learning to my work. This has then helped with my learning, as it's given me alternative viewpoints when looking at a problem in uni. But, I have learned a massive amount whilst being at CGI, business skills, and other essentials that aren't taught at school but are critical in my day-to-day.
I really enjoy the program. As I couldn't go to Uni leaving school, I applied to countless apprenticeships with the hope of a degree at the end of it. And, CGI was the only company that offered this, although, I'm the only apprentice within my group of apprentices(15) that progressed to the degree program. Which may scare a few people off, but it just made me more determined.
With the current institution that is the COVID-19 Coronavirus, the uni has done very well in organising the program to allow it to be taught at home through video and the lecturers are always on hand to help. Before the outbreak, the course was very well defined, and the structure was there from the beginning.
Not much really, other than the day off on the Wednesday which is enough in itself. Unlike most other students on the same course as me, I'm allowed a day off on Wednesdays, having the morning off and then at uni from 1pm-8pm. For this, I am very grateful, as we sometimes have exams/tests where the morning off is needed for last minute study.
Endless amounts of support, the university have been very helpful with most questions asked. All the lecturers, and program directors have given us their time when needed, they have allowed us to do coursework rather than exam whilst the whole corona virus thing is going on which is great. Gower college are our workbased portfolio handlers and they haven't been particularly helpful, the work based stuff is a module that we need to complete which is meant to help us apply our learning to the work place.
As I'm learning Java, I've been able to apply that to my work quite easily as a few of my projects are built in java. Learning to code in Java has also taught me to read code, this has allowed me to have a deeper understanding of my projects, and accelerated my work.
PLENTY. With CGI being as big at it is, there's always events going on. Currently, we are partaking in a step challenge, this is being used to raise morale with the outbreak and get people walking whist at home. There's also five a side on Wednesdays, and we regularly get pizza bought for us. And, that's just my team.

Great placer to work, I've made plenty of friends here and the work has been challenging thus far. The money could be better, but everyone says that. Very relaxed environment without too much pressure from above as they've been there themselves and know the feeling. Just an enjoyable experience.
