I undertake the rolle of a client service advisor. This means that day to day I have to speak to all levels of authority, including our offshore team, members of our team as well as more senior members. Daily tasks include, producing all compliant renewal documents which includes a Terms of Business Aggrement, Client Disclosure Handbook, Renewal Reports and Trade Restriction Checklists. I have my own accounts which means I have to speak to clients as well as insurers as I have to assist in arranging cover for our clients. I now have the ability to go through the entire renewal process with clients which also includes the invoicing process.
I have developed many new skills throughout my apprenticeship as well as existing skills. I have to interact with all authority levels and for this reason I have to adapt the way I communicate depending on who I am speaking to, this is one existing skill I have developed on. Other skills developed include, the way I write my emails. New skills developed include the use of new software that I haven't used before.
I enjoyed the programme a great deal, it has allowed me to learn a lot of technical knowledge about insurance that I didn't have before. It has also allowed me to meet a lot of people in the same position as me, entering the insurance market, therefore helping me grow my network.
The programme is very well structured and organised. It was useful having one to one meetings once a month with my talent coach from the training provider as it gave me the opportunity to ask any questions on anything I was unsure on. This was also useful as it meant I had someone continuously on at me and encouraging me with the exams/work as it was very hard at times to keep motivated when I was so busy with my actual role.
From my employer I did receive a great deal of support, I was always given the necessary time needed to revise for my exams. However once the exams were completed and we had to complete the end point assessment, this was when I felt the support lacked as my manager didn't understand the need for the end point assessment to be so heavy in terms of the amount of work I had to do for it.
I received a great deal of support from the training provider. I had one to one meetings with my talent coach from the provider which gave me the opportunity to go through anything I was unsure on. As well as this before each exam the training provider organised for someone to come in for the day to have a revision day. This gave us an extra opportunity to ask any questions and get extra help for the exams.
The qualification has helped me to perform better in my role because to gain this qualification, I had to do a great deal of studying which then allowed me to gain a better understanding of insurance and particularly the areas of insurance I deal with. If I hadn't done the qualification then it would have taken a lot longer for me to understand the processes of insurance and I wouldn't have understood a lot of terminology used. It would have taken me a lot longer to learn everything necessary to do the role I now undertake.
Yes, there are a great deal of extra curricular activities at my work. We have monthly team meetings with the wider team, after these meetings we social drinks. We have quarterly team activities with the wider team as well which allows us to bond more and get to know others in the team that we may not deal with day to day. We also have regular networking events.
Yes
I would recommend Aon to a friend because I believe, particularly for someone starting out in the industry, they are an excellent training provider that encourage individuals to get their insurance qualifications which are vital to progressing in the industry in the future. They are also a large corporate company, therefore one of their main focuses is their employees.
When applying to Aon, make sure you are either willing or wish to complete your insurance qualifications as this is encouraged a great deal. When applying, make sure to be yourself and ask numerous questions so you understand what your role will actually include. Also make sure it is the are of insurance you wish to be in.
