  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis it very much depends on what role you are in as to what you do. This scheme offers 4 areas of rotation and within those areas you could be in many different roles eg) in sales you could be working on an account with ASDA or an account with a wholesaler so it very much depends on what role you are in!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot in the way of soft skills as well as learning a fair amount of work related skills. The dynamic of working full time is one that develops you very quickly, just commiting to working every day, being surrounded by a team and being trusted with tasks really develops you. I have also learnt a lot in the way or role related skills be it how to use specific software or understanding acronyms and technical terminology.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel very proud to work for such a large company with a global footprint. I thoroughly enjoy the programme from both a work and a study perspective however it is let down by the organisation of the scheme. During transition periods it is fairly unsettling at can take a while to get 'set up' in your next role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say that from a university perspective it is very well organised but from a rotation perspective far less so. You have to appreciate the fact it is a very difficult process to manage but you do not get told about your next rotation soon enough to start confidently. There is not a lot of support when rotating. This means that it can get frustrating as sometimes it can take a month or so to actually get set up in a role which when you consider you're only in role for 6 months is a little frustrating. It would be better to know where you are going sooner so you can establish a rapport with your new team before starting

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All the line managers you have will be incredibly supportive and keen to help you develop both in and out of your day to day role. This is however the only support you recieve on the programme from your employer which at times can hinder you slightly but if you proactively seek it the support it is there for you

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider are very supportive. We have 1 to 1 meetings discussing development every 3 months or so. with regards to uni work it is difficult not having that regular contact with your tutor but there isnt much you can do about that as you cannot constantly be at uni! There are online resources to support however it is sometimes difficult not having a more personal line of support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is difficult, sometimes you will sit a module with a lot of prior knowledge and context as you have spent time in the function you are learning about however sometimes its the other way round. If this is the case when you go into that function you have a lot of background knowledge to help you perform better

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of events organised on a team level that are non work related. There are also many events organised amongst the apprentices which are also great fun. As far as Nestle as a whole is concerned there are many company wide events held which give a great overview of Nestle as well as useful industry insights

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This scheme is brilliant when you compare it to studying a full time degree. Firstly this scheme is no longer than a full time degree, you have no tuition fees, you get paid a salary and you come out the other end with 3 years practical experience alongside a degree! If you are willing to work you can get so much out of the scheme

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • Relax, be yourself and don't overprepare. The interview process is strengths based meaning you aren't tested on knowledge. Come in with a decent but genuine knowldege of Nestle (don't recite the wikipedia page!) a few past events where you have used key skills and plenty of confidence and you will be fine!
