  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am now at the end of y apprenticeship. I now prepare and process both plant and material invoices for the project, assist with creditors payments and deal with supplier queries on a dialy basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become really good at communicating with suppliers whether that be via email or over the phone. I have become a lot better at organising and prioritising tasks and am therefore able to get a lot more out of a days work than I was when I first started my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship. I am given enough time to study and an effort is made to incorporate skills I learn whilst studying into my everyday tasks.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is well organised. Every Wednesday I study from home, without and distractions from work. Every other day I work together with the same team to try and overcome new tasks and challenges thrown at us.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. I am given as much time as I need to study. It was made clear to me from the beginning that the priority is for me to learn the syllabus and pass my exams so that I can apply them when at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider offers me lots of content and the resources required to pass my exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Plenty of what I have learned through my training provider has helped me at work. However, being in the workplace and being given real work place challenges is where I feel I learn the most.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There aren't many things to do away from the office.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a leading organisation in its industry and offers many pathways towards where I want to be. Currently I work within the highways sector but going forward there could be opportunities for me all over the country.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Costain?
  • Learn about the people and the work ethic that is expected and put it into practice every day. The more you put in the more you get out.
