Currently in my first year of the engineering apprenticeship I am attending Midlands training group in Coventry for a full year Monday to Friday. I am learning various skills such as welding, mechanical maintenance, electrical, pneumatics and turning as well as completing a BTEC qualification every Thursday. Most of the skills are learned at MGTS but it does require some work to be completed at home also.
Currently I am learning various skills such as welding, mechanical maintenance, electrical, pneumatics and turning which are assessed by completing various tasks in each subject and completing knowledge questions on top. The BTEC qualification on a Thursday I am developing skills in Maths, materials, electronic principles, communications and health and safety.
I am really enjoying everything about the programme. With learning new skills everyday which I will be able to apply in the work place when I eventually go back after my first year at college. I enjoying pushing myself to learn new things and the programme offers so much. It is a fun learning environment also.
The programme is very well organised by Midland training group and Britvic. We are offered support throughout the programme whenever you need it by Britvic and the tutors. You spend one week on one subject and move on to another the next so you complete different sections of work. This works well as you spread the programme out over the week.
Britvic offer support whenever you need it and a very good with communication. They are only a phone call away and if you ever want to meet and talk about anything in person and not over the phone they will be more than happy to. They check in on you regularly and make sure you are ok.
MGTS offer support whenever you need it when working towards your qualification. All of the tutors are very knowledgeable and approachable to help with anything. They also have two learner support tutors to help with maths and English if you are struggling with anything or any other issues that does not have to be work related.
All of the skills that I am learning through Midland training group are essential for me in becoming a successful engineer at Britvic and I will be able to apply all of them in my engineering role when I return to Britvic. Especially skills in mechanical maintenance, electrical and pneumatics which will be very useful.
As I worked for Britvic before as an operator before starting the engineering apprenticeship I am part of the Britvic Rugby social club where we organise events outside of work hours such as group meals, football tournaments, trips to London or even go karting. The shifts organise the events through the social club or by themselves.
Yes
Britvic is a very good company to work for. I have worked for them for nearly 10 years now which speaks for itself. Most people that work for Britvic are there for a long time. They like to develop there employees in to roles they want and support them through this. I started as an operator and I am now pursuing a career in engineering which is something I have wanted to do for a number of years and they are supporting me through this and providing the training. They like to invest in their on people.
When in the interview process do not be nervous as the people at Britvic are very friendly and approachable. Just be yourself and be honest. Think of some good examples of when you have gone the extra mile and it does not have to be work related. Think outside the box.
