On a day-to-day basis, I construct electrical circuits and complete various different training paperwork. Over the year and a half in the Academy/workshop I will learn the basic knowledge of electrical installations within the industry. This involves building support systems using metal cable tray, trunking and conduit, wiring a circuit using different types of cable, testing electrical circuits and fault finding. In the remaining two and half years, I will be placed within the industry at different placements to understand how the business works and improve on my knowledge.
Whilst in the Academy, I have learnt a basic understanding of electrical knowledge and the practical skills to wire different circuits. I undertake internal courses, for the business, throughout the four years enabling me to work in the industry. I attend a college to gain a HNC in Electronic & electrical engineering, and I will have completed a NVQ level 4 when I finish my apprenticeship.
The work within the Academy that I do is mostly enjoyable. It allows me to think about how electrical principles work and how they are incorporated throughout the company. The majority of my team work well together and are respectable, however a few individuals lack enthusiasm for the quality of work produced and are easily allowed to distract others. It is common for everybody in the team to be grouped together when one individual does something wrong and little praise is given when an individual works well.
The apprenticeship is poorly organised.
My manager is supportive and understand with personal problems.
My college course has little resemblance to my apprenticeship. The majority of my course revolves around electronics and not electrical.
There are events, however I have not attended any.
Yes
Overall support and benefits are reasonable, however the training could be better.
The interview process is fairly long, however you get to meet lots of nice people along the way.
