Operational responsibility for the medical education department at the Christie NHS FT. I manage the team who are responsible for the education, training and support of doctors, medical students and physician associates in the Trust. We organise all teaching and clinical placements, ensure a high quality placement and offer pastoral support.
Yes. I have evolved as a manager and now work at a much more strategic level. The MBA Degree Apprenticeship is an excellent course at MMU for those who want a comprehensive but broad understanding of business and management. I am a better leader from what I have learnt on the programme.
It is a very enjoyable course. It is hard work, which is to be expected for this sort of programme but it is thoroughly enjoyable. You meet new people from all sorts of industries and learn from them continuously. The tutors are approachable and supportive and always available for help.
The course is very well structured. Moodle is utilised well and resources are available. All course dates are given up front and support options are well explained.
My employer is supportive however the job always takes priority. My manager have changed 3 times since started the course so my mentor is a clinical colleague who i work with closely.
MMU have been excellent. I have had regular meetings with my skills coach and the whole apprenticeship team are available for support. All of the tutors are accessible and willing to help.
The qualification forces you to apply it to your role as the assignments are work based. This has helped hugely with applicability of the material.

The Christie is an excellent place to work and is always patient focused. No matter what your role you are appreciated and well supported and the work that we do collectively makes you proud.
Processes can take a long time in the NHS so stick with it!
