  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist the Licensed Leisure team in their agency, professional and consultancy functions on a day to day basis, expanding my knowledge while learning on the job. There are a wide variety of tasks that I complete on a day to day basis. With larger projects that provide an excellent and invaluable opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced surveyors in the industry where I may not have had the opportunity at other firms.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My skills have been developing from day one of my apprenticeship, Savills consistently push you to develop and to continue this throughout your career. In particular, soft skills are a keen focus where applicants are joining the workplace at an age and experience level where they may have not had solid experience on workplace practices.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my experiences over the last year and a half of my degree apprenticeship and naturally expect this trend to continue over the remaining time. I get the opportunity to work with many amazing people who are very supportive in my development. The work I complete is very enjoyable which is very important to consider when selecting a career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Savills have taken a variety of steps to bolster the apprenticeship programme, given the trends suggesting that a rise in apprentice provision is expected. Savills is very well placed to take best advantage of this, taking lessons from the industry leading graduate programme, to ensure that we continue to attract the best people.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As previously mentioned, Savills have taken a variety of steps to ensure that it's apprenticeship programme is as robust as possible. This includes hiring a dedicated apprenticeship coordinator to monitor, track, and guide apprentices where necessary. This has improved Savills' provision for apprentices drastically providing some of the best levels of support in the industry.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider for my apprenticeship, UCEM, is again industry leading. The programme is distance learning based, with minimal face to face contact time. This can be difficult to adapt to for some learners. UCEM is well experienced and well suited to aid this transition and the first year of the programme is definitely geared towards this transition process.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Ultimately the qualification that I work towards is a necessary part of completing your APC with the RICS. From that point you are then better placed to service your own work and bring in new business. However the studying completed as part of this degree is beneficial in my day to day role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • With the property industry being a very social, people focused industry, there are a wide range of extra curricular activities to get involved in. These are definitely encouraged and are a great way to get know people. Networking is a key skill in property and the sooner you are able to make some connections, the more beneficial they will be.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Savills is an excellent employer that takes great care of it's employees. With an industry leading graduate program, they are well placed to extend this to apprentices and apply their wealth of experience and lessons learnt. Savills attracts some of the best talent in the industry, enabling teams to win better and better instructions and create a positive feedback loop, becoming the trusted adviser for our clients.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
  • You should definitely have a good understanding of the Savills business. The Savills website is excellent at providing good content that will definitely help at an interview. At its core Savills is looking to retain its core values when hiring, you should be able to demonstrate that you understand what these mean for you and what these mean to your hopefully future employer. Finally, it is also key to remember that you are applying to get the knowledge so you are not expected to be an expert in the field. This brings two points: Firstly, while not being an expert, you should still have a basic understanding of your job role. Secondly, the team are hiring you and not your knowledge, focus on developing your soft skills. Best of luck
