I am part of the NM audit department so my days mainly involve working from client sites that we are auditing, working on clients from the office or doing daily stock takes for our clients when approaching year end deadlines.
I have developed much more confidence when communicating with new people, often whom are much older and more senior than myself. I have also learnt a lot about what auditing entails and maintaining professional scepticism throughout all our work.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme and think its a great opportunity to learn, while applying these skills to my job in order to earn a salary. I have also met lots of great people, both fellow apprentices and more senior colleagues.
As a member of the audit specific apprenticeship, I have found this very well organised and feel very much integrated as part of the department. The KPMG360 programme which some of the other apprentices are part of, didn't seem as well organised in the beginning.
I feel I receive lots of support both through my department for my day-to-day working and the apprenticeship team which is more aimed towards our professional studies. The only issue I have found is knowing exactly who to contact for what as there is a wide range of contacts.
Throughout tuition and exam preparation, there Is lots of help available if required. Also the online materials such as mock exams are very helpful!
I find the qualification very relevant to my day to day work, being based in audit, and it helps with my confidence when I recognise procedures when working that we have learnt during tuition.
There has been many social events which I have thoroughly enjoyed and I have felt have really helped integrate me into my department. There have also recently been apprentice networking events introduced to bring together the wide range of apprenticeship stages and bridge the gap to communicating with partners.
Yes
I regularly recommend these apprenticeship opportunities to younger people I knew from school as I feel it is much more rewarding than going to university. The firm also provides so many opportunities for later in life ie overseas secondments/various departments.
Never be afraid to ask for help when working as people don't expect you to know what you're doing in the beginning! Also really make an effort to get to know the fellow apprentices/your department as its important to feel integrated.
