My role is to aid the software engineering department complete projects and learn as much as I can from the experiences I'm exposed to. Networking plays a key role also, going around the office and spending time in each area of the department, learning what you can and expanding the network
I have learnt how to use many industry standard languages and tools efficiently and existing skills in software development have been fine tuned to the industry. I have also learned more broad professionalism skills such as how to have effective conversations and communicate efficiently, creating powerful PowerPoints among other skills.
I enjoy my programme vastly. The opportunities I'm exposed to and the people I am surrounded by all make the experience always exciting and always enjoyable. The learning is definitely tailored toward my interests and I am always feeling like I am learning things that I am genuinely interested in.
The programme is well structured and dynamic. If extra time is needed for learning then it will be allowed and work can be placed on hold which minimises the stress. If you ever feel lost there is always someone who will guide you to work which is always fulfilling and furthers your knowledge.
The support is excellent. When transferring into the business world it can become quite overwhelming but there is always some to ask any questions, even if they seem silly a concise and clear response will always be received. University work is always supported and allocated time is given to complete all work
I mentioned previously that the support is very apparent. Not only support but the understanding from the employer that University can be demanding is extremely helpful and keeps the stress to a minimum. Apprentices who have been on the programme for an extra year are always available to help out and give you advice from there own experience as they have been through the same thing before which is extremely reassuring.
I believe the qualification is extremely helpful in some areas and in other areas it could be improved. Part of the time I will be writing a report on a module from university which will not be related to my field of work and I think that time could be benefited from much more by being spent on first hand experience doing the work around me which is also a lot more appealing.
Because there is such a large network of apprentices all over the country there is always a different event being organised by someone or a social somewhere else in which is everyone is included. Also the team you work with are always very inclusive of you and invite you to any socials they may have.
Yes
Because they are a fantastic employer which offer many opportunities in and out of the office. It's an excellent way to enter the working world and not feel like a stranger to it. KPMG is a place of diversity and inclusion that I am proud to say I am a part of
Be yourself and maintain integrity but be sure to show everyone what you have to offer. Be ready to make the most of every opportunity which comes your way. Network as best you can and don't wait the more connections you can make early the less it feels like work.
