On a day to day basis I attend university 2 days a week and work 3 days a week. I am involved in a project where I am developing a piece of software in React/JavaScript. I also am involved in meetings. At university I am learning computer science content.
I have developed skills in programming in java, javascript, react. I have also learnt about agile methodologies and node js. At university I have learnt how to program in an object oriented fashion. Furthermore, I have improved my communication skills and have learnt to network and manage my time effectively .
I enjoy my programme as it challenges me to learn more. KPMG train you well and guide you when you need the support. I enjoy university and have the best of both work and university life. I hope to learn more as I work my way through the degree program.
The program is well structured. Our module organisers support us where needed. The course is 5 years. The first, second and third year we attend university for 2 days and work for 3 in the fourth year we do a year in industry and in the fifth we go back to university/work to finish the program.
We receive alot of support. KPMG give us a buddy and a mentor. We can ask for help where needed. A buddy is a apprentice in the year above. Everyone in our team is welcoming and open to questions. In terms of university we have the support available as every university student does.
The university support us and treat us like university students. We have academic advisors and regular semester reviews to ensure that we are on track. We also can ask our professors for advice as any university student can. Our professors provide office sessions sometimes when we need extra help on a module.
Every module correlates to what we do at work. We have to evidence this in portfolios throughout the semester. My degree provides me with the foundations to understand technical terms at work. I have also learnt and improved my programming skills through being on my course. My degree is enjoyable.
We have the opportunity to join work groups, of which I have no personally joined, as well as university groups. I have joined the AI and robotics society at university and find it very fulfilling socially . There are lots of opportunities to network in the team such as team socials.
Yes
KPMG support you and are welcoming. Everyone in the team is willing to help and support you and challenge you to learn more. It has been really fulfilling to learn how to be a software developer and grow my skills at an early stage. KPMG provide the environment for this.
I would advise applicants to learn the core values of the company and apply it to their experiences/ extra curricular. Practice selling yourself and learn about recent technologies, if you are applying for a tech role. Show you are willing to learn and research KPMG. Be confident and research interview questions.
