  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role at KPMG as an Audit Apprentice is to assist members of the audit team with any tasks they require help with. My role on a day-to-day basis typically consists of multiple tasks which enables me to gain an insight into each sector of an audit, this therefore broadens my knowledge across this industry.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since being at KPMG, my confidence skills have increased; this is mainly because of the independence in our workplace that apprentices are given. Since working within a professional environment, I have become much more organised; in relation to this, I have learnt how to prioritise my workload, something that I struggled with whilst completing my exams.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme; being able to earn and learn at the same time is an excellent way of progressing into a professional industry. I like that we are able to still attend university as well as having a full time job; it is much easier to balance than I originally thought. KPMG ensures that every apprentice has a good work-study-life balance, and this is especially important to anyone with a job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme and every programme offered at KPMG is very well structured and organised. Every apprentice is made aware of any university tuition and exams well in advance so that we have enough time to prepare. The Professional Qualifications team always ensures that we are up to date on any changes that may occur to us during our professional studies.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • KPMG provide support to every one of their employees, no matter what stage they're at in their career. As an apprentice, every colleague I have come across has always been supportive of my professional studies. Everyone knows how important our exams are, and how important it is to take a break away from work too; as I have mentioned before, a work-study-life balance is especially important and everyone at KPMG is fully supportive of this.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support that we receive from BPP Professional Education is second to none. Regardless of whether we are currently studying, or not, they are always on hand to support us with any queries we have. All of the tutors at BPP are very knowledgeable and are always willing to assist you; no matter how simple or difficult your query may be.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though my qualification plays a key part in my performance during my day-to-day role. It allows me to understand the work more thoroughly as I find that sections I have learnt at university are easier to understand during my day-to-day role. I also think that my day-to-day role allows me to understand my future studies more clearly as I have already applied them into a professional environment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At KPMG, I find they are a very social activities. There is always an opportunity for you to meet new people from different departments; whether it is during a sporting event or a social event after work. Additionally, there are many professional networking events for apprentices to attend; this allows us to improve our communication skills and broaden our network.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend anyone to start their professional career at KPMG as they take such pride in caring about their employees. Every employee at KPMG is supportive of you, in terms of your career goals and personal goals too. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone at KPMG, and lots of social events too. Everyone at KPMG is inclusive, and you are able to network with people from all walks of life. An apprenticeship at KPMG is perfect for anyone; from all types of backgrounds.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • The biggest piece of advice I have for someone applying to KPMG is to always be yourself. There are opportunities at KPMG for everyone, and not just one "type" of person. Everyone at KPMG is different in their own way but we all join together to provide a professional service to our clients. Applying to KPMG may seem scary to some, as it did for me too. My biggest piece of advice is to be yourself as I have said above, and enjoy your time throughout the application process.
