My role as a 360 Apprentice at KPMG is currently in Consulting where I carry out Public Policy and Regulation work for public sector clients. The work that I do on a day-to-day basis is carry out written proposals with other members of my team where we will outline how we are going to carry out the work that our clients require and have asked for us to do for them.
I would say I have developed both my verbal and written communication the most since joining my Apprenticeship at KPMG. This is because I have had to meet and collaborate with several new people whom I do not know, therefore developing my verbal communication with new people. Also due to having to send several emails per day and carry out a lot of written work I have developed my written communication as I feel it has reached a higher standard.
I have enjoyed my Apprenticeship programme to a high extent because it is learning something very new, which I enjoy doing as it is interesting. It has also allowed me develop skills and meet new people as well as changing my daily routine of the past 15 years which is going to school. I feel this programme stands out in that essence as it allows me to get an in-depth feel of many different sectors within accounting, which in uncommon in Apprenticeships.
The programme that I am on is very well structured as from the very start the apprenticeship team outline what we will be doing and how long we will be doing it for, tying it to specific dates. Also in terms of exams we are told what dates our exams will be well in advance. This allows us to plan holidays and revise to schedules if need be.
I receive a lot of support from KPMG as they always supply revision materials for us when we have to learn the content for our exams, as well as supplying us with high quality laptops and phones to help us in our jobs. They also provide us with support in terms of relations as both the company and the apprenticeship team always has their door open if we need any support with anything.
We receive a whole lot of support from our training providers as they provide us with high quality learning materials, alongside with revision materials which will enable us to learn to the highest standards and have the highest possible chances of passing our exams. The tutors are also of high quality and provide us with support as we can contact them whenever need be if we require help or need to ask questions.
The qualifications that I am currently earning and will earn in the near future will help me perform better in my role. This is because once I move into Audit or Tax roles then the qualifications content will heavily link to the work that I will be doing on a day-to-day basis and therefore will help me work easily and more productively.
There are a vast amount of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at KPMG, such as debate teams, sports teams and networking events, the choices are endless. I have made sure that I have been a part of some of these and will continue to do so whilst working at KPMG as they are both extremely helpful and fun.
Yes
I would 100% recommend KPMG to a friend as within only 6 months of being employed here I have realised what a great professional firm they are. Everyone I have met at KPMG are extremely friendly and helpful, especially towards apprentices. As well as the vast amount of apprentice programmes and graduate schemes that they run can be really influential to kickstarting anyone's professional career.
My main tip would be to just be yourself and be friendly as I found that KPMG loved this during the recruitment stage, I did not feel nervous one bit during my interview as the staff made me feel calm and welcome and that really influenced how I performed during my interview as I was allowed to express myself and show KPMG who I really am.
