The Job varies quite a bit which is good - I am seconded to one department that my manager oversees. Originally this was the basic workplace support team, but has included time with the database administration team, deployment & integration team, and the active directory admin team. My manager has put me and the other apprentice in my team in charge of making sure that our teams tickets are always kept up to date and being worked on. I also complete everyday work that those who work in the teams I am seconded with would do, and I am given full training on how to complete things and always spend time shadowing people in the teams. I also represent my manager at different meetings when she is unavailable.
Yes - I feel like since starting at Willis, I have significantly matured and my confidence with dealing with people and talking to others has also increased significantly. I have also developed IT skills, I am learning and developing SQL and learning about basic IT management practices. I have also become more computer knowledgeable, and know the ins and outs of Windows 10
I really enjoy my program alot. I am treated just like any other employee and get to complete tasks that any other employee would complete. My colleagues are friendly and are always willing to help me out and show me stuff no matter how little or how big it is.
Very structured. I am able to constantly see the structure in terms of exams and coursework and have set dates for everything. My manager will second me with a different teams every 3 months. The structure is really clear and I am really happy with how my apprenticeship is structured
A lot of support. I know I can talk to my manager about anything and everything and I really enjoy the support from other colleagues who will help with anything and everything no matter how big or small. Everyone is helpful and always smile and the coffee is really good
Quite a bit. They give me webinars and online mocks to do as well as an online text book. However I feel that they could give me more support such as a personal trainer who I meet with once a week to one to one go through stuff with me
It teaches me things in detail, such as the ins and outs of windows 10, the basics of networking and windows server and the basics of coding and programming. These are things that, even in little ways will really help me improve at my job and teach me things that will always come in handy.
Yes. Willis has this thing called the 'Young professionals network' which you can get involved in. It acts as a network for all young people working in the company and they organise events, like pub crawls and meals out, and they also give a support line, so that we can speak to someone if we get stressed.
Yes
Working in a building and environment like Willis is amazing - it's modern, slick, and the facilities are really nice, such as the onsite Costa. The staff and colleagues are all friendly and willing to help with anything and the salary is good too. The work ethic is high but also relaxed.
Make sure you stand out on your interview, ask questions, and if applying for the same role as me, make sure you come across as quietly confident - it really helps in a role where you are changing teams every 2-3 months. And it doesn't matter how much IT experience you have - you will gain all knowledge you need.
