On a daily basis I do back drafting where available, or issuing when needed.
I have attended PDMS and AutoCad training courses. These helped me in understanding work when passed to me.
The team I work with are great, I've been given as much help as I've needed without feeling like a burden. I did expect more work that what I am currently getting. I'm just hoping that this is down to the current issues within the Oil and Gas Industry. The company cultures can be great, with lots of social events with the Graduates and Trainees. This also brings forward a good support for the whole group. At the moment it is not meeting my expectations, purely because work is slow and I don't feel like I am learning anything new at the moment. I am hoping this will change soon however.
I do feel valued as part of the team. I haven't had any note on any recognition.
Induction for the company was great on the second day, it gave us the opportunity to meet our managers and buddies. The first day however, seemed to be more of a waste of time, which is a shame as the lady that presented was really good at what she did. I just don't think anyone would use the colour systems she had us categorised into. Training for AutoCad was great. The PDMS course left a little to be desired but that has already been reported. Mentor system is a great idea, I just think it would be easier if trainees were kept closer to their mentors. Still waiting on a full college induction (with meeting our College mentor etc.) in February which is a bit of a shame, but I can understand they are busy.
I can't comment yet as I have not started the college programme yet.
My manager is great and sends through handy information whenever he can. HR Team have been good and helped us get our first college induction set up. They have been very helpful when questions have been asked. My mentor is very helpful. The team I have been placed with have been very patient and understanding with me.
I do not earn enough to live away from home and at 22, I think my parents are getting tired. I have an efficient low cost vehicle so travel costs are quite low. Daily costs living in Aberdeen are quite high, I do have to be careful and pack my own lunches most days. (I cannot afford to use the local shops every day and we do not have a canteen at this office.) Social costs are pretty high so I only go out once or twice a month depending if I can afford the £20-40 taxi back to my parents (It seems the cost completely depends on the drivers haste to get you home, it's hilarious). I am currently living with my parents out in Aberdeenshire. I am trying to save for a house in the centre of town but it is quite difficult to have enough money for the deposit/stamp duty/ offer over cash. Someday.
Good sporting opportunities so i'm happy. (Snowboarding - dry ski slope and holiday). I would prefer if the gym discounts for staff were greater however, as I attend the gym 3-4 times a week. I volunteered for the Gold Crest Awards at Hazelhead which is going quite well!
No
Not at the moment. Things seem slow for everyone.
Application process is simple enough, just be honest. In my interview I just made sure I was myself and tried to make it more of a conversation by asking questions back. Assessment days are pretty daunting but just be a keen team player and keep positive. I've had great opportunities for sports that I enjoy. I feel like there will be lots of opportunities when I'm moved projects as I don't think many are going to come from this one unfortunately. I wish I'd been warned about the possibility of not having constant work.
