  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage and arrange insurance for my own book of clients. This involves communicating with clients, insurers and internal staff, by means of email, telephone and face to face. As well as this I go to lots of events building my network and relationships which aids me with my job. As well as this I have training as part of my CII qualifications.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned lots about the insurance industry through job experiance and my CII qualifications. So far completing LM1, LM2 and working on the M92 course. I have improved my English skills to write formal emails. I have developed my excel skills to produce advanced spreadsheets. For example creating my own program to draft emails.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love going to work everyday, or working from home as we are at the moment! I did not want to go to university, instead wanting to learn on the job. I think earning a salary helps with my motivation to study. The job is challenging, I love this as it keeps me interested. As well as this the people I work with are great!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured with clear dates to complete dates set to complete tasks by. However it is very flexible which is great for the industry. As my workload changes throughout the year, with March and December being super busy, I can do more studying when it suits me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a very large amount of support from my employer. I have assigned to me a buddy and skills coach. This is in addition to the apprenticeship coordinators and my line manager. Lots of sessions are provided for training. If anything I would rather have less support and be left to get on with it!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support. In the form of training workshops as well as always being able to ask my skills coach questions. As well as this I have a buddy who is a year ahead of me in the apprenticeship to help me wherever I need. And the organisations culture lets me ask anyone for help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is great as it teaches me the basics of what I need to know to become an insurance broker. Although it focuses on the theory of what to do and not how it necessarily works in real life. But this is learned from experience doing the job. The information is good but the provider isn't necessary (usually just reading from a book).

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of social activities to take part in. This could be in the form of company events such as the Christmas dinner, or even going for nights out with all of the other apprentices! I attend lots of networking events and we are all given a volunteering day off work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to work. The apprenticeship is a great opportunity to learn and earn at the same time. As well as this, being a large multinational company provides massive opportunity to move up the business in the future. The corporate culture is very inviting and I enjoy going to work!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • Be yourself. Insurance broking is a relationship industry, you do not have to fit a profile of being the most intelligent person. Make sure you can prove your a hard worker and be a likeable person. If you apply make sure you have researched the industry and the training you will receive, ready for interviews.
