  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves, setting subcontractor orders, dealing with subcontractor payments, ensuring they are all paid on time. I also keep track of costs on projects using internal systems where I track money spent and predict future costs for quarterly forecasts on projects to keep track of profits or losses on projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to integrate my self very well into the working environment with people of all different ages and communicate well with them to be able to efficiently get things done. I have learned time management and how to manage workloads well which was something I previously was not great at.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the program so far, all the people I work with are great, everyone at the company is so friendly and I always feel involved. All the new friends I made In college are all good people as well.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel it is well structured as level 3 and 4 gives you a lot of base knowledge for the construction industry in general which I didn't know about before, the way in which they do college blocks in Leeds for a couple of months of each year breaks the year up and gives the apprenticeship variety where we can still get the uni life experience almost living in uni accommodation and also get paid for it and be learning your job at the same time, really Is the best of both worlds, this is what first attracted me to the apprenticeship in the first place instead of one day a week of college near home, its almost a uni experience without the debt.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is all there if you require it through the college staff and tutors.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I am in my first year the subjects are all core subjects so not so much my specific roles but it helped me understand so many industry-related terms which I hear all the time, the subjects do get tailored further into the apprenticeship for role-related subjects.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend as the company offers great benefits such as free private medical care, company car after a certain amount of time covers all travel money in apprenticeship years whilst also paying for your qualifications and your degree if you want it, its really a company that cares about you and invests heavily into their apprentices, so you don't just feel like another number there. I feel not many companies offer all the things BAM do.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Take time in writing your CV AND covers letters as you want to stand out, a lot of people apply every year if you have taken any construction or maths-related subjects or any work experience in industry or even better if it is role-related, I would emphasize that rather than giving lists of exact grades for irrelevant subjects, show that you have a general interest in the industry, look at their values on their company website always helps and information on the company always helps when applying and being in interviews. BAM offer work experience as well so this is another way to help get your foot in the door.
