Senior Auditor Review

My role in Audit is to provide assurance and confidence to external stakeholders who have oversight of businesses. This is both on a global level and on a more local level. On a day to day basis I am interacting with professionals both within the company I work for and externally with clients.

Since starting I have found that my peoples skills have developed massively. I now find it much easier to interact with more senior figures, whereas before I found that challenging. Working in teams is also a massive part of my day to day job and I've really learnt how to adapt to different peoples needs and how to learn from others.

The programme I'm on is great. The people I work with are all incredibly helpful and friendly which makes a massive difference to my experience here. Initially I was very nervous about working with graduates and real professionals given I don't have a degree however this goes unnoticed from the get go. You're treated the exact same as anyone else.

The programme at EY is very structured and there is a specific team designated to ensuring that everything goes to plan and that if there are any issues or hiccups along the way then these are resolved. There is little ambiguity when it comes to the course design which makes it much easier to see the finishing line.

Support appears to be a massive part of EY's culture. From exam sittings to day to day work there is always some around to mentor or help you in the situation. There is a structure in place which means everyone always has someone to go to if they are ever feeling overwhelmed. Everyone is super open to having a chat and that makes a huge difference.

ICAS are very eager at ensuring that you aren't finding things challenging or too difficult. All lecturers are super approachable and are constantly offering help and advice through sharing email addresses, making it easy to get in contact and raise any issues or concerns that you may have along the way.

The idea of being a qualified CA at the end of my training contract motivates me massively when I come into work. Given there is a guaranteed job when and if I qualify, it really pushes me to work hard and to the best of my ability. Seeing School Leavers in that position already can be set as a real target

I am part of the Social Committee and the CSR committee. We work with external charities to help raise funds through internal events. We also work with our own internal charity, the EY Foundation, who help young disadvantaged children find employment. I was fortunate enough to have trekked the Great Wall of China in May 2019 as part of a fundraising exercise.

The culture is fantastic and everyone is super helpful. Being in an environment like this really motivates you to work hard and to fulfill your potential. The idea of working in a company of this magnitude, while attaining a professional qualification as highly regarded as a CA, is a no brainer.

Be yourself most importantly. Also be prepared to work in teams and to adapt to different needs and abilities. In addition to this it is important to note that the qualification requires a lot of time and effort, however if you commit yourself to the situation, you will most certainly see huge benefits down the line.
